the FACTS:
I will be taking the MCAT on july 2nd. I havent submitted my primary app; my transcripts have been verified but my recommendation has not yet been received. I am almost done with my Personal Statement.

the STATS: 3.98 at a top 20; double major; solid pre-med and non-premed ECs

> Questions:
1.) If I finish with my PS today, can I submit the application to AMCAS sometime tommorow? OR, does AMCAS need to receive the commitee letter as well? (Just to verify, the only two checkpoints amcas needs are transcripts + commitee letter right?)

2.) If I take the MCAT July 2nd, obviously AMCAS sends scores as soon as they get them. Should I just apply to my safety + mid-tier schools? Can I somehow tell AMCAS after I take the July 2nd application that I plan on retaking so AMCAS can inform med schools to "sort of" consider my mcat scores but wait on my later scores? ...not sure how this works

Thanks.

You can submit as soon as you are done but AMCAS wont send your primary out til they have recieved your transcript and verfied your grades.

You dont have to have your LOR's to sumbit your AMCAS.

I believe AMCAS will inform school that you have register to retake your MCAT but Im not sure

From your GPA, I'm sure you'll do fine on the MCAT. Go ahead and submit the AMCAS to every school if you're confident in yourself. You'll get secondaries from schools, they'll just notify you that they are waiting for the receipt of your MCAT score.

I did the same thing last year and it paid off.

oh ok, so i should just update later for top-tier schools after I get my mcat back (say around august 1st)? but in the meantime, i should just put down my safeties and mid-tierish schools?

sounds good. the key with primaries is the long verification period, which will only get longer from now until Aug. the transcripts that they have received have not yet been verified (they verify only when you pay)
