Sending email saying they are your top choice

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I can't imagine that it would help much unless you were one of their top choices as well. If that was the case, then once again it wouldn't matter much. To me it would seem more desperate than anything else.

If they were your top choice, you probably were able to write outstanding essays explaining why you are so interested in their program.

Good luck!

if ur first choice, write
elderjack, i think that you want this guy's spot... and that's why you are advising against it, lolz (just kidding, that;s the response i got for offereing my honest opinion here on SDN) it is sooo sad that some people think everone is like them🙁

it addresses similiar issue, only most people on here would prolly tell you to go ahead and write it. could be useful. just ignore the nasty part lol

I wrote emails to several schools stating that they were one of my top choices (which was true). Here are the results:

School 1: Invited me to interview the very next day! 😀
School 2: Completely ignored me. Still ignoring me.
School 3: Polite email saying they'll keep that in mind.
School 4: Curt and kind of snippety email saying they received my email.
School 5: Email telling me that they are planning on inviting me to interview sometime in the next few months, but that I shouldn't construe that email as an invitation. Weird, but good to know I won't be getting a post-secondary rejection from them.

If you decide to do this, you should 1.) have a strong answer to the question "Why School X??" and be able to convey it in your LOI, and 2.) send a letter in the mail, not an email, and make it look professional

I'm not sure they'd really care.

Instead of asking yourself if it'll help, ask yourself if sending the email would hurt your application.

Yeah. So just send it.

Heh what was school 1?

yes, it can hurt if it is construed as desperate or you come off looking like a jackass in the letter. but all in all, i guess it's a good idea - i mean, if they were just going to reject you anyway, i don't see the drawbacks, and if they were thinking about interviewing you, this could be the bump you need.

I hope those schools didnt find out that you sent the same letter to four other schools!!! Not that they would, but if they did it might hurt

I made it clear that they were ONE OF my top choices. I didn't lie or even stretch the truth. 🙂
