Currently have 2 diversity essays, and I'm trying to determine which one to use.

1. Growing up in a large yet tight-knit African immigrant family and the ideals passed on to me. I have 30+ cousins, most of whom I’m really close with in proximity, some live a few minutes away from me, and we frequently spend time together as a family. I wrote about multiple anecdotes, such as monthly family prayer meetings, having relatives from Nigeria live at my house for over 10+ years, working together as a family to gather funds to provide food for those in need in Nigeria during COVID with relatives there distributing the aid, etc.

2. My relationship with my younger brother diagnosed with autism, and what I learned from him. How it has shaped my understanding of inclusivity, patience, communication, and respect for autonomy, and the way I view people in general. Can also talk about witnessing the lack of accommodations for his needs in certain places. I was also involved in autism research and outreach during undergrad.

Either of those are workable subjects

thanks for your reply! does a particular essay stand out more to you?
I think either is fine, you talk about a family issue and tie it to something important you did. Go with the one you feel you can write about better

Both are great! Write them up and see which you like better.

Any chance you can interweave the two ideas? Like, do you think Nigerians sees autism in a different light than Americans? The latter would def be something I'd want to read personally! Adcoms love an origin story for research.
