I just completed my first semester at Penn's Special Science program. One of the grades I received is under discussion, as the professor did not add in points she should have. I have to bring it to the chair of the department and discuss it with him/her before it can be changed, but I have all the "evidence" to prove that my grade is a mistake, so I am hoping it won't be an issue.

However, I wanted to send out my grades to med schools as soon as I can and this is taking longer than expected. My GPA without the grade change would be just below a 3.7 for the semester. With the change they would be around a 3.8.

I don't want to wait until it is changed to send them out, but I don't want to

1) Send out grades that are lower than what I earned. I know a 3.7 isn't bad, but you guys know what I mean.

2) Send out the 3.8 before it is changed. The only risk in this is I have not spoken to the chair yet, and although I cannot imagine the grade not being changed, nothing is 100%.

3) Wait until the grade is changed, and risk schools making a decision before they receive my grades. (I applied for Fall 2009)

I also don't want to send out grades with a story behind it. I will if I have to, but I don't want to sound like I am making excuses to these schools, because that is the last thing they want to hear. "Here are my grades, but I am arguing to get this grade changed to..."

I wouldn't go through all this if I did not earn that higher grade. Anyone have any thoughts about sending out my grades?

I seriously hope that a medical school will not deny your application due to a one tenth of a grade point subtely I understand that every applicant wants to present the strongest case possible, but 3.7 vs. 3.8 shouldn't be the deal breaker. If in fact your application does get round filed with a 3.7 gpa, the rest of your application was lacking somewhere and the 3.8 probably wouldn't have saved the sinking ship anyways. Based on what I've been told - and not just on SDN - most schools consider anything over a 3.7 the same, and it's the rest of your application that they are concerned with. For some freak of nature, you happen to almost have a Doppelgänger with respect to your primary AND secondary, but the only difference is in fact the one tenth of a grade point, then maybe it'll come into play (or they'll just throw both of you out for being suspiciously similiar - who knows). This process sucks and it makes us all neurotic, but just remember, there is a point of diminishing return (ie. the "Oh my god?!!?! I got a 39 on the MCAT, should I retake?" <-- I love these.)
