Just got the psych gre scores back. Is there some general/unspoken rule about whether or not to send to schools that say it's optional?

I scored a bit above the 85th percentile, but based on my gpa I'm afraid schools might expect higher. Should I send, or not send?

I don't have a reply for your question, but I have a selfish question of my own: When did you take the test? I took it in October, and my scores still aren't posted on the ETS website. I wonder why?

I would advise against sending in the scores to the schools who say it's optional. 85th percentile is an OK score, but I doubt it will add anything to your application. If there is even the slightest chance that it might hurt your candidacy, I don't think it's worth it.

And Psychadelic2012, I was wondering the same thing!! I took mine in October and my scores aren't up yet.

I also took the psych GRE in October and I was under the impression that ETS made scores available on-line as well as mailing them out on November 25th. So, I was waiting for that date to roll around. But if the OP also took them in October, would you mind sharing how you got your scores??

hi everyone, i took it in october as well. you are able to call ETS through their phone service that reports scores. $12 fee. if you are anxious i suggest paying the fee, especially if your deadlines are dec. 1. but for the most part if your deadlines are dec. 15 you can wait, it's a really anticlimactic 3 minutes. they also don't report your scores for the different sections.

Wow, okay. Thanks for the info, even though I have ZERO interest in paying any more money to ETS than I already have!!

How is everyone sending out the GRE scores?

I have my general scores but the psychology scores aren't available yet. I want to send out my scores, but I don't want to have to pay twice for sending my general scores now and my psych scores later to the same schools. On the other hand, I'm a bit worried that if I wait for the psych scores, I'll miss the December 1st deadline.

What do you guys think?

I decided to pay the $12 to get my psych gre scores earlier because I didn't want to risk sending a mediocre/average score or miss out on sending a great score. My psych gre was okay, but not awesome or anything special so I decided to send it only to the schools that required it.
If you are not sure how you did, this could be a good option...though it means spending extra money :S

Yeah, I decided it was worth the $12 and called in today. It turns out I did very well so I will just send out all of the scores tomorrow.

How long have these scores been available? I didn't even know about the option to call them until I saw it posted here. It's kind of frustrating to think that I could have payed the $12 and sent the scores out weeks ago.

how could i determine what an excellent score is? i know that some schools post averages, but what i guess i want to know is whether my score is relatively impressive or impressive in its own right?

more specifically, would an 85th percentile score be not so impressive, given my psych gpa is a 4.0? i'm worried that they might rethink my GPA based on the gre score. what do you all think?

80th percentile and above should be fine... in general any score around 700 or better won't be looked at strangely. I wouldn't send it unless asked, but it's nothing to be ashamed of either.
