Hello all. Been looking into MD/PhD course for schooling, and I am curious: do schools customarily shuffle your app into the MD only pile if you're rejected from the MD/PhD program? I've heard conflicting stories about this both ways. I've talked to a handful of MD/PhD students who say yes. BUT...I had a conversation with the Assistant Director of the MD/PhD program at the University of Minnesota the other day and he said that it wasn't automatic there.

Insight?

Different systems I've come across are:

-Automatically moved to MD pool if rejected
-Asked if you would like to be considered for MD pool if rejected (ex: Cornell)
-Simultaneously considered for MD and MD/PhD
-Only considered for MD/PhD (I believe this is the case at UMinn, because for the MSTP you are not required to fill out a secondary application, whereas for the MD program you are...)

And of course many schools ask you what programs you want to apply to and you can pick multiple choices. Some schools (I know of AECOM) will even forward your app to the grad school if you want.

Depends on the school. I don't think there's any lists.

yeah, but if you want to know about certain schools, collectively we can probably help you out for most of them.
