I am an IMG, I had passed step 1 and going to take step 2-CK in mid July and schedule to take Step 2-CS on Sept 11. I have been told that taking step 2-CS on Set 11 will be very less effective for residency match because I would be taking it after the Sept 1st the dead line. I have a quick Q, realistically how important is the sept 1st dead line:

A. If it is critical then I could try to take it on Sept 5th or 6th ( as only these two date are available at the center)

B. If it is extremely critical then I might try to switch the center and try taking the CS exam before Sept 1st ( which is Friday, first working day after sept 1st would be Sept 5th)

Could some please throw some light on my above scenario.

Also, what material I would need to submit with the application for the residency match for Sept 1st dead line.... I-e step 1 score, step 2-CK score etc etc.

Thanks!!

I don't think just taking cs by sept 1st will make a difference. It may be beneficial to have a score reported by the 1st (the first day you can transmit your app to programs through eras) but you certainly don't have to do this. There may be some value taking cs before the 9th because your score will be reported quite a bit sooner.

I don't know how it is for IMGs, but for AMGs, it doesn't matter. I didin't take Step 2 CS until after Match Day, so it was a non-factor as far as getting a Residency spot. It may be different for IMGs though, but I think as long as the score is reported before the ROL is due, I think you will be fine.

"Pottsy2", Great point i did not think about CS score reporting
schedule. Thanks!. i ended up changing the date to Sept 6th for CS.

In response to "Angel80", what i heard for IMGs is: that they
can apply to programs using ERAS system as long as they had appeared in
the CS exam and they have scores for step 1 and step 2-CK, however they
do need scores reported before interviews. I thihk, It will take a
couple of months to get an interview calls and most likely you will have
your CS scores reported by then. Doing this would expand you chances to
get in to good program, besdies other factor i-e good step 1 and step 2
scores....

Thanks!

I'm confused, I didnt realize there was a deadline for step II CS. I had planned on taking Feb/March of next year.

IMG/FMGs must have passing results for step 2 ck and cs by the december of the year they are applying in, so by december 2006 for the 2007 match.

If not we get withdrawn from the match.

I heard that FMGs/IMGs can apply to programs using ERAS system as long as they had appeared in the CS exam and they have scores for step 1 and step 2-CK, however they do need scores reported before interviews.....Could anyone please confirm the above scenario?????

not true. You dont need scores reported prior to interviews. Many dont know or have not shared scores before interviews.

some same its an advantage for us to have it done prior to interviews so that we are viewed as less risky applicants, but is in no way a requirement to have it done that early.

You just need to show the ecfmg? who acts as our dean's office that we have passed step 2 ck and cs by december if not we get pulled from the match.

Not true. IMGs must take CK and CS by Dec 31st in order to have the scores by rank order day. If you dont have your scores by then, IMGs are dropped from the match. You do not need your score before Dec 31st. It may help to show you passed or aced the test but it is not required. This is according to Ross Graduate Catalog and ECFMG.

I was not talking/asking about the Dec 31st dead line and CS exam. I know i must have taken the step CS and have scores of Step 2-CK in order to be in the match for March....
Actually i was asking/talking about Sept 1st dead line, CS exam and ERAS system. What i have heard is: FGMs/IMGs can submit their applications using ERAS system (when diff programs download your app) AS LONG AS HAVE TAKEN THE STEP 2CS. They could get interview calls ... the trick is that it would take couple of months to get the interview call and IN THE MEAN TIME FGs/IMGs can get their Step 2-CS scores and then they can get the ECFMG cert right away and hopefuly they can go to the interview with Step 2-CC scores and the ECFMG cert.
By doing the above IMGs/FMGs will be in the pool for match right at the begining (i-e Sept 1st) instead of Dec 31st thing. I hope i did not confuse anyone. please do response.
