First of all, let me just say how horribly disorganized my institution is...I'm so pissed right now. Like most schools, my college's pre-registration for spring classes started this week. For some ridiculous reason, instead of just letting us schedule our own classes online, all freshmen were required to make an appointment with their academic advisor who would then enroll them into the courses they wanted.

This is where the total B.S. comes into play: we recieved emails on how to schedule an appointment on our school's website, which clearly stated that we would be able to login to the site at 9:00 AM sharp. Low and behold, it apparently allowed students to login at 8:30, so everyone who planned to go on at 9:00 got TOTALLY SCREWED. In that half-hour, every single one of the Wednesday appointments were taken, leaving only Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, my classes conflicted with all of the Thursday appointments, so I was forced to settle for a later one on Friday.

Now, since so many people have chosen classes already, there are pretty much none left. My school's administration, being the geniuses they are, somehow overlooked the fact that there's barely enough space/faculty to accomodate their largest freshmen class yet. There are ridiculous conflicts with everyone's schedule now; for example, there is only one Biology II section and one Calc I section left, but they are both at the SAME TIME!!!!!😱😱 Since I go to a small health science college, both of these are required for all majors.

To make things worse, almost all of the lab sections and other classes left are scattered all over the place. I could potentially have a class at 8AM and then not have my next one, which would be a lab, until 5PM. I'm also a commuter student, and it takes me about 2 hours to get to school and 2 hours to get back home, so I may be looking at waking up at 4:45AM and not getting home until 11PM. If this is the case, I'd have almost no time to study, do homework, sleep, work, etc. and my GPA would go straight down the toilet (Bye bye med school).

This total lack of consideration for students is absolutely unacceptable IMO. We are, after all, paying top dollar to come here, and they still treat us like dogs. I'm seriously considering withdrawing from this school, working full-time for half a year, and then re-applying somewhere else. What are some other options??? I'm freaking out right now!!!! :scared:

If you're a freshman this isn't the end of the world. You have tons of time to take the classes you need.

The lab situation is annoying, but I feel like that's kind of typical.

Try to calm down - pick a schedule that works for you, and you will be fine!

(that being said, it is still crappy they opened it early)

How can he be a freshman in high school? WTF??

OP, that really freaggin sucks man! What if you miss a class on Thursday and go for registration on this day? I dont think missing a class will affect you negatively in any way..

As far as the time conflict goes, that really sucks! Maybe you can take one of those classes in the summer? This way you wont be behind...

Best of lucks..

The appointments for Thursday were today...yet another extremely stupid decision by the school. They tried to cram hundreds of appointments into three days. Some advisors even got double-booked somehow, so they end up having two people show up at the same time. This is completely ridiculous.

welcome to being a freshmen. You've got plenty of time to get into your major related classes. Take a sedative and chill out. If you're screwed so is everyone else scheduled later. And because you are freshmen even the people on wednesday probably got crappy classes because everyone older got to register before them.

You have 6 more semesters to get your classes in so suck it up

that sucks!
my cc atleast lets students register online on their own...
and lucky for me there arent many people rushing to pick next semesters classes...
maybe they will add more sections for those classes as they fill up??:xf:

some major bull going on over there...hope they sort things out

Register for what you can, then watch for the last day to pay. A lot of people wont pay on time and new seats will open up. Hopefully, you can catch them.

Once you get more hours, you will be classified at a higher level and can register earlier.

Also, try to talk to the specific teachers of the classes you want to go to the first day of class. Sometimes they can get you in.

Also, look for openings for better times during the first week of school. Some people try a class then drop.

Remember, the most important thing is to have the good teachers not the good class times so go to prof rating sites for your school and see who the good teachers are.

If you are thinking about transferring just for more class options, try a large state school. Or you can take some of the requirements at community colleges during the summer.

Hopefully, you can use your off hours to study or you can buddy up with someone who will let you take a nap on their couch near campus during the day.

Don't panic. Just stay proactive.

Good luck!

I don't think that's necessarily true. At my school, each major has a strict curriculum, aside from a few electives taken in the later years. So, the upperclassmen aren't registering for the lower level "freshmen" classes.

I'm sure there are some but so what? So you have to stagger when you take classes. I'm sure if you can't get into a class you absolutely positively HAVE to take this semester, your adviser will figure something out, they'll open another section or they'll make sure you get in next time or w/e.
I know it sucks but it's not catastrophic. If it was your advisers would do something about it because they probably don't want all these pre-med freshmen calling them freaking out any more than you wanna be freaking.

You can either roll with the punches or you can stress and panic and mentally masturbate over how you're never going to graduate on time. Your choice

Class at 8am and 5pm with nothing in between? How does that not give you time to work or study? Hell, you could get a full-time job.

First of all, my job is five mins away from where I live. I'm not gonna go home and then come back to school, that would be a total pain in the ass. Second of all, I find that sitting in my school's library at a computer (which I need for most of my HW) is actually counter-productive. I study best when I'm in the comfort of my own home, at my own desk.

We all have to deal with crappy schedules from time to time. It sucks but it isn't catastrophic. Adjust your study habbits accordingly. If you have a huge break sometime between 8-5, then learn to study at school. It might not be your favorite place to study, but you just have to buckle down and deal with it.

I would care less if I lived at college, but I don't. It's not like I get out of class and go right home, it takes me 2 hours to get there. If I get out of class at 9:00PM and get home at 11:00, and then have to wake up at 5:00, what kind of life is that?

Welcome to being a college freshman.

Uve got plenty of time left to get in all ur prereqs. You can always go to the department chair an get an override. And they'll probably open new sections if enough people are requesting them.

As for your 8-5 situation and your study preferences, that's just something you'll have to find a way to deal with

Jesus, you are a college freshman. Relax. Are you living at home with your parents? If so, transfer to a school in another state, and start the long hard road to becoming an adult. Holy mother.

Me being a college freshman gives me a pretty good reason not to relax. I don't care who the hell you are, you can't tell me that my situation isn't crappy. And don't you think I would like to transfer? My dream school is UVM, but it costs $40,000 per year. My parents don't pay for my college at all, and I doubt financial aid is going to bring that cost down to something I can afford.

Damn...can you make one post without being a total ass?

Sometimes you just have to adapt.

Honestly this does not sound like too big a deal. Yes it may be inconvenient but just live with it for a semester and hopefully you will end up with a better schedule next semester.
