I understand the mechanism behind an MAO-I induced hypertensive crisis from intake of tyramine containing food products and I understand the mechanism of serotonin syndrome (ie. from and SSRI plus other serotinergic substance) but I don't understand why serotonin syndrome presents with neuromuscular symtpoms (such as hypertonia, hyperreflexia, seizures, ect.) whereas the hypertensive crisis does not. I assume these symptoms are serotinergic specific but does anyone know the mechanism?

Thanks in advanced.
