hey i have an interview at AZCOM next week
i wanted to hear from current students about opps at the school for students to get involved in serving disadvantaged individuals

this is what i ultimately want to do in life; i'd really appreciate your help cause it will help me if i'm asked "why azcom?"

Great question!

I am currently a fourth year at AZCOM. There are so many oppurtunities throughout out the year to work with the uderserved. There is AZCOM Home that goes downtown twice a month and first-fourth year student help treat patients who are homeless (adults and children). This is a student run organization and requires many student volunteers to collect medications and organize these visits. On a monthly basis there are head start physicals for children and other health fairs that any student can get involved in. There are quarter sports physicals programs that students can practice skills and see children for physical exams. Many many oppurtunties as early as your first year!!! We do many drives clothes, food, books, and even halloweeen costumes and candy. CHS put on a Halloween night for underserved children and children from the Faith House right on campus (wonderful event)!!!

For third and fourth years there is the Guadamala trip during January-February. Many rotation oppurtunities in border towns and rural communities throughout your clinical training! The oppurtunities are endless!!!

Hope this helps and good luck with your interview!!!😉

thanks a lot!
i know that working with the underserved is my ultimate goal and i'm glad that AZCOM has so many opportunities
i also wanted to ask what the teaching opportunities were at the school?
I"m a TA right now and really enjoy and would love integrating that somehow if i get in and attend AZCOM
thanks again!!

FowlersGap,

I am a first year at AZCOM and we have second years who are TA's in our anatomy and OMM labs. Beyond the opportunity to act as a TA you can also participate as a tutor. I am not sure of anything you can do as a first year--but if anyone would know, it would be Nicki (she is a GREAT wealth of knowledge). I did hear of people who were TA's for the PA anatomy during the summer.

Good luck.
