Hey all!

For all the people who got an interview invite at UCLA, how did you set up the interview date? I just checked my status page and they have requested an interview. Do I call them up or do I get something in the mail that tells me what I need to do to set it up? Thanks 😉

It takes forever because everything has to be done through snail mail. They'll mail you a letter with a form asking for 3 interview dates that you would like. You mail them back, and then they send you another letter confirming your date. Very lame, they obviously haven't heard of email yet. 🙄

Don't even bother calling the office or dropping in person, or trying to find ways to sign up online.

What puzzles me is that UCLA is such a cutting edge institution but the interview sign-up process is at 19th century at best.

Hey all!

Thanks so much. How long did it take for you to get the letter via snail mail? Mt status page said an interview was requested just yesterday, so should I be waiting a while before I get the letter to sign up for an interview?

i just checked the website and found out that i was also invited for an interview. Do I only have three dates to choose from? I'm askin, cuz I'm going back to school in the east coast on jan 1st, which means that I prolly wouldn't be able to schedule an interview before I leave. I applied to seven schools in cali, but only interviewed at davis so far. I would like to wait until I get more interviews, if I can. How flexible are their interview dates? I tried calling them, but no one picked up the phone.

YOu can pick out Days of the week that you are available and indicate a period of time that you're not available (eg. X'mas break)

Thanks, calbee.

The admissions people called me just now to ask if I could come on jan 8th... but I CAN'T!!! DAMN!! I asked them if it would put me at disadvantage if I interview in March (during spring break), and she told me it wouldn't make a difference. Is this true???? ucla's definitely one of my top choices, and I'd beg for coins to fly out there for an interview earlier, if needed.

UCLA has rolling admission starting on Mid-Jan...so interview late has no disadvantage.....SURE....

Really, try to do it in January...but if you really can't, then I guess Spring Break will be an option.

People do cancel interviews and spots become available. When I interviewed there, there were 4 interviewees that day. One of them got into that interview day b/c someone cancelled. The 5th interviewee cancelled at the last minute I believe, and didn't show up.

And make sure to stop by my office in NPI so I can harrass you.

What room?

So the rumor that NPI is full of psychos is true huh...😛

You know it's funny, I haven't really encountered too many true psychos, I think they keep them locked up - but I do see pods of anorexic girls wandering the halls with some counselor leading them - so that's always something to see.

I swear I'll PM you my room, you really need to stop by, I'm loads of fun.

I'm confused, I'd love to take a slot in January, but when I called they just told me to wait for the form and send it back. If I call and say I'm anxious to get this over with, will that make a difference?

I've already made 3 trips to Southern CA for Irvine, SD, and USC... what a waste of money!

I think it was well worth the money considering you got into both SD and Irvine. 🙂

Dr. Kevin,
I have heard conflicting things...on one hand they don't let you schedule the interview over the phone, internet, or in person, but some people were able to squeeze into an interview day at the last minute b/c of cancellation.

I think you have to ask for other specific dates (like not just month, but DAtes) and see if there's any spot.

I don't think I'm scared when I'm inside NPI, as some wards are locked by multiple doors (I know this b/c I interpreted once inside a ward). It's just an interesting place with a unique "aura".

Anyways, everytime I see your bouncing avatar I feel like laughing...

First, a thanks to DrJ2B, without who I probably wouldn't have checked my status page and gotten in touch with the admissions office today. I think the deal about scheduling interviews over the phone with UCLA is having a good reason for needing certain dates - I go to school on the east coast and I'm home in L.A. for winter break, so they were really nice about scheduling something for me over break.
