It is an interesting story, really a continuation of a long fight between SGU which pays hospitals to take their students, and the other NY hospitals who don't.

Two things are missing from the discussion:

1. The scholarship program is paid for completely by SGU. The other NY schools crying foul can simply do the same thing, if they want. Simply give students a free ride, and make them sign contracts to work in public health in the city. All the bellyaching is simply politics.

2. The issue between NY schools and SGU (with number of slots for students) has been brewing for awhile, and I wonder whether post-Sandy we're going to see a crisis -- if hospitals are closed / downsized for some time, student slots will be at a premium.
