Hi guys!

So I'm a Canadian student who wants to shadow a DO. However, Canada recently passed a law saying students can't formally shadow doctors due to patient privacy concerns. I know there are two DO's in my home town, so I am wondering how I can approach them and ask to shadow them "informally"?

I know I may need to end up shadowing a DO in the states, but I would still like to try my luck with the DO 's in my hometown first >.<

It feels like more dumb laws are being passed every day now a days in all countries...

Try to see if you could turn it into a volunteer opportunity if you can't get a working gig.

Some hospitals in the US have policy against shadowing as students. The work around is you apply for a job as a patient care tech or some such and then ask one of the docs if you can on a day off shadow. Same can go for a doc in the office.

Or volunteer at said hospital since they give you HIPPA training.

Talk to the docs and see if they will bring you on as a short term "employee" or something. When does this law go into effect?
