Does anyone have any suggestions about how to find a physician to shadow? I had an interview at a DO school and I feel that a big reason I didn't get in was because I have never shadowed a DO. I just feel a little weird about cold calling some doctor and asking if I could shadow him/her. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

E-mail worked for me. Just find a hospital or office that you know of and can go to conveniently and browse their staff directory. Most places have online listings. Once you find a person in a field you are interested in (this is a must, not just a random doctor) explain to them what it is you want to do and for how long. Some might ask for some information about yourself, like a resume. Most doctors are more than happy to accomodate students. Hope this helps. 🙂

If you can, get a list of doctors in your area from an insurance plan. When I tried it, it listed not only DO and MD, but which school the doctor graduated from.

I found a DO that graduated from the school I was most interested in, and shadowed him for a LOR. He wrote one for all other schools, and a special one for the one he graduated from.

I don't envy you, it was really hard for me to make that call. If you get lucky, though, you may find a doctor who enjoys having a student shadow them.
