How many hours per week are generally required to shadow a physician? Also generally how long do most pre-meds shadow them for? Just looking for a very general range to get an idea of what i can expect from this.

I don't think there's a "requirement". Shadow for as long as you want or as long as they'll let you.

Hello,

I am currently shadowing a cardiologist at the moment (well it's been four months). I did not put a time limit on how many hours I will shadow him, neither did he. In a week I may do clinical/hospital rotations with him about two-three times a week, for about five hours per day. I understand he is busy, as I am also with school and other volunteer activities. With the past christmas break from school, I decided to give it a rest, but once school starts (18th), I'll be back in it again.

I told him when you get sick of me let me know, he was like this is an honor to be helping you in this way, and to have you observe me. The day I was not supposed to do rotations with him, he'd actually called me (well his secretary, lol) and told me he had a 10am procedure. He's really kewl like that, just find some-one who doesn't mind you being around.
