Can you give us more info? Where are you in your training? Pre-med, medical student, high school student, etc.?

Currently I'm a high school senior. I've heard of other high school students that have shadowed surgeons before. I just don't know where to start who to call or see. Also I'm in Colorado if that changes anything.

If you don't know any surgeons or have any connections to them it may be hard to shadow one at this point. I would start by asking your careers counselor at your school. They may be able to recruit a local surgeon to come to career day at your school where you can meet them and ask about shadowing. Or you can do what I did when I was a pre-med. Go to your local university's website and get the emails of a few surgeons. Shoot them an email explaining who you are, why you are interested in surgery, and ask them for shadowing opportunities. Be very polite and professional. Most won't respond so don't be discouraged (they are very busy and some are not thrilled about having students shadow them) it's nothing personal. Just keep emailing different ones and eventually you're bound to find one who likes students and is willing to take you on for shadowing. Good luck!

Thank you! ill give it a try. ive already sent two emails today hopefully someone will reply.
