I recently called my nearby clinic and asked if I can shadow one of their doctors. The lady told me you can only do it for one day, anything over that one day would need a contract and apparently, my undergrad institution--UCLA--doesn't have a contract with that clinic. Do you need a contract to shadow a docotor, even if the doctor said it was okay?

Thanks.

I've never heard of something like that, but I guess in your case you do need a contract.

Find another clinic. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Or, call the Doc and ask him what the deal is with these 'contracts'. I sort of get the feeling that the clinic's getting paid to reserve shadowing 'spots' for students from contracting universities. Hope I'm off though, because that's sort of disturbing..

Thank you. Yeah, it's ridiculous!! I've called about twenty doctors, we'll see how that turns out 🙁

Hi, my mother is a nurse at a local hospital and she asked the doctors to allow me to shadow them. They were happy to let me do it, but the hospital didn't have a contract with my university either. I tried several attempts but in the end it didn't work out.
