Just a question about shadowing technicalities. I'm trying to experience medicine first-hand this summer (just finished my freshman year). I'm enjoying it so far, and I think I'll be shadowing two MDs later on in a month or so.

I have the opportunity to shadow some staff in a clinical lab. I'm definitely going to do it, because - hey - it's more things I get to see!

But, from your general experience, has anyone done this similar sort of thing? Has it been valuable? Is it worth it to pursue this (I'm already working in a research lab in biomedical engineering, so I don't know if I'll learn that much by seeing another lab 😛)

Do it! I shadowed a clinical research coordinator for a day and saw her interact with patients. It was valuable because I got to see how clinical studies are organized and carried out, and got to know more about the intricacies of drug trials. It was also valuable to know that I definitely wanted to be the physician involved in the trials, and NOT the coordinator who has to deal with the physician's crap! 😀
