I started out by contacting doctors at my university's teaching hospital but most never replied my email and one was nice enough to email me back and explained no one in the hospital could let me shadow because of privacy rule. I started calling variety of private offices. Some told me "The doctors are busy, so you probably can't shadow them. Call another office !" (?!). Some had the doctors call me back but they have always replied me with a no and the reason has always been privacy rule. Some offices told me right away they never had students shadow and that was a no.

If anyone living in Los Angeles has successfully shadowed, can you please PM me or share here the doctor's name and number so I can contact them. I just can't believe that a big area like Los Angeles has no single office that is friendly with premed. I am interested in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, but any specialty is fine as long as I can shadow one.

Thanks very much. Really hope someone help me on this.

Thank me later...

If you're willing to make the drive south to San Diego I'm pretty sure that they'd be willing to let you shadow at Navy Medical Center San Diego (or at the clinics at Camp Pendleton, if you want a shorter commute). They're always trying to get new Premeds to join up, and the Privacy rules are much less stringent. Just send an Email to the department you would like to shadow in. You can also try contacting your local Navy health care recruiter: there's a chance that they'll not only get you a chance to shadow, but they'll even put you up in a nice hotel to try to sell you on the Navy.
