Just wanted to let anyone who is thinking about doing some shadowing is possible, if you really want to. I don't know how hard it is to find someone to shadow in the US but here in Canada it is pretty rare and difficult to be able to do. I emailed some random doctor at my schools medical faculty. She responded and told me that it was against the university's regulations for a non-medical student to shadow, but that she operates her own private clinic and it might be possible to do it there. After some telephone tag I just confirmed today that I will be starting next week. I am delighted and just wanted to let you guys know, er, whoever cares!

Good luck, and enjoy yourself! Shadowing was the most interesting medically-oriented activity that I did as an undergrad student - you'll have lots of fun.

That's very nice to hear 🙂 especially from a place where shadowing is something extraordinary.

I thought of doing that this summer, but my advisor told me that I don't need more clinical experience. I chose to volunteer in a homeless shelter instead. Nevertheless, shadowing is certainly a great activity, so congratulations on your accomplishment.

I found out that it's easier to shadow a young doctor (one who just started internship, etc.) because they know what you're going through. Older doctors tend to ignore premeds (this assuming you know not the doctor personally).
