How is everyone filling out the contact information for shadowing if you did multiple physicians? Obviously, I'm grouping my shadowing experiences of the two different physicians together, but right now I have the contact information blank since I don't know which one to list.

I'm going to separate mine just to make it easier for the adcoms. Also, trying to fit the description for both experiences in that small space would leave me with little room to talk about them.

I'm also grouping some of my experiences and I'm just listing one of the contacts. I wonder if it would be better to leave it blank though? Any advice? Does it even matter?

I'm grouping and putting the physician I spent the most time shadowing as the contact.

Hmm...I guess I should just group mine then. I don't want it to look like I'm padding.

I shadowed many physicians, about 4 or 5, should i group them together?

I grouped them together since I didn't need alot of room (at least more than the alloted 1325 characters) to explain the wide gamut of things I saw shadowing, I really didn't want to make it look like I was trying to fill all 15 activitiy spots.

this is a stupid question, but do you list your shadowing under,

"Community Service/Volunteer- Medical/Clinical" OR "Other"

I put mine under other, since you're not really doing anything (and it's not a stupid question, I was wondering the same thing!).

I also grouped mine, and just picked one of the two physicians. What are you guys putting for "contact's title"? Both of mine were FP doctors and don't really have any special title 😕

Since y'all have experience shadowing...how did you go about finding someone to let you tag along?

Did you contact your local hospitals? Would like to have some kind of experience to put on my AMCAS. I have a medical background already but would like a chance to do something like this.

TIA 😀

I asked my family doctor and she let me shadow her, and I also got to shadow one of the other docs in their practice.

duh...should have thought of that. But wasn't sure if that was the way to go. There are alot of clinics around my area. Plus, I have kids so I could do a pedi shadowing, OB/GYN or family practice.

Thanks!! 😀

I would rule out community service/volunteer since you aren't actually helping anybody.

I was leaning towards putting medical/clinical since it is more descriptive than "other". As someone else said, you aren't actually doing anything medical, but you're still seeing medically related things, so I think it's ok to classify it that way. Does anybody else have thoughts on this?

Yea, i had 5 doctors i shadowed also, but i grouped them all together, but i had a hard time containing the info in the box, i wish i had a 16th spot for some of the docs, but oh well...

How many hours did you shadow your physician (or each physician if you shadowed more than one)?

Also, what did you do for lunch? I'm shadowing an attending next week, and I don't know if I should have lunch with him, or do I go on my own and meet him after?

Really depends on how much time you have, and what the requirements are to the schools your applying. Personally, I put in time with 3 doctors. I did 2 of them for 4 eight hour shifts each, so a total of 64 hours. The third doc liked me, so I put in 4 hours a week for 8 months, a total of around 300 hours. Of course, at the time I thought the requirements were a bit higher (my girlfriend is pre-vet, and her requirements are about 2000 hours of clinical experience so I thought mine were similar).
