Shadowing over the summer

OK, so I am shadowing my Uncle this summer who is a general practitioner who owns his own office in an urban area. Im shadowing him for four weeks. I'm just about to finish my freshman year of college and I just have a few questions about shadowing.

Is there anything i need to do to prepare? What kind of tasks am i probably going to do? Im just kind of confused because i have no idea what shadowing entails.

LOL, especially if it's your uncle--don't sweat it! I'm sure you'll just stand around and watch at first, but then you'll get more involved by helping clean up, sterilizing stuff, etc. He may even let you "assist" in some ways, such as by suctioning or whatnot.

However, just a word for the wise: Lots of schools require a dentist LOR, but I know some specifically designate that the letter must be from a "non-relative dentist." So keep that in mind and make sure you shadow someone else, too! 🙂

Yeah I'm definitely going to try to work with a specialist as well
