So I am currently working in my gap year as a medical assistant for a large private practice and one of the physicians that I work for is an osteopathic neurointensivist (along with other pulmonologists). He only has clinic once a week and sees most of his patients in the hospital. However, I have really been able to see the daily life of a D.O as he sees patients in the office. I plan on shadowing him in the hospital but I'm wondering if I can count the hours that I am working for him as "shadowing." Or would this just be considered clinical experience? I obviously interact with him as well as the patients to do what the physician orders so there is a lot of patient contact but does shadowing strictly have to be in an observatory manner?

Thanks for the help!

I'd fall on the side of, if you are getting paid, that's not shadowing.
