I'm sure that the practice of sharing a qbank between people is highly discouraged...probably illegal, but I seem to hear alot of talk about the possibility here and there. So I pose this hypothetical question:

What would be the advantages and disadvantages of sharing an account?

Pro's: Cheaper

Con's: Repeat questions, maybe not being able to log in at the same time?

Cheaper is the only Pro I can think of.

Cons: Illegal, Can't kep accurate stats of which questions you did, how you did on certain organ systems/subjects, your percentages, your progress over time. That's one of the nice things about Q-bank, the record keeping they do for you, and you give all fo that up. Plus the fact that you can't keep track of which questions you got wright/wrong..etc. Just a mess if you ask me. This is a once in a lifetime test (hopefully) so spare no expense. Just my $.02

Illegal is a very harsh term, and one that I am not sure applies here. I sincerely doubt that any issue of legality is at play here. If you choose to share QBank, you have every right to do so, but the cons are pretty much as described above. The biggest one that turned me off of it was not being able to track my progress. But just to have access to all of the questions would be reason enough to split the cost...I am sure something could be worked out to get through the statistics aspect.

The main disadvantage is not being able to keep track of your stats. Isn't that part of the reason for doing QBank? (Otherwise, you could just use any database of questions, or books of test questions.)

But do you guys think its worth shelling out the loot just because someone at kaplan figured out how to use excel? I'll probably do it, partly because im lazy, and party because i dont want to short change myself in anyway. I just think its ludicrous that this costs so much...

If it makes you feel any better, I shared my Q-bank when I took Step 1 last year. But it does suck that you can not track your own progress. I guess that it really did not matter to me. Plus I could always use my Q-book to see exactly how I did individually. And if you are really want to chart your own personal progress, you could keep your own stats. But that would still be unsuccessful in avoiding repeat questions.
