hey how u guys doing.

so i have taken only 1 year of bio with lab and that was a long time ago. to do well on the bio section, i kno you need to read more than just the kaplan book so i got the shaum's book. i do not want to go over the whole shaum's book because i do not have enough time and i might not absorb as much rushing the book. therefore, for all of you who have used kaplan, which areas in the book are the weakest and which chapters (or topics) would you suggest to read from shaum. it seems like ecology and taxonomy (is this the same as classification?) are good to read from shaum. thanks.

so no one at all in this forum used schaumms with the kaplan material? I know someone must of had to use both. I would really appreciate the help if someone can respond.

I've been using both... I haven't taken the DAT yet, but they seem to be helping. Everyone keeps saying Shaum's is overkill or too dense... I'm personally a fan of overkill rather than not getting enough.

I thought the Kaplan bio was a waste of time, it really did seem to be a very quick summary of everything, and there isn't much detail at all. Personally, I'm going to be concentrating on Shaums.

I guess we'll see how it works out on July 14 :-\

I have Schuam's as well...I started reading (while highlighting imp stuff) thinking oh i will remember this....as days went by i felt like oh crap this is a lot of stuff & there is no way i will be able to memorize or digest all of it. I would look at the pages of the chapters more than i read lol! So i stopped at chap 19. Then i read kaplan bio chapters which were useless. I also made index cards while reading kaplan bio chapters. So I was like yes i understand this stuff now i will take topscore test & score 18 or above. Guess what? i scored low because the kaplan info wasnt enough. then I started destroyer & that's when i used schuam's the most! In destroyer whenever i was not familiar with any topic i would make sure that i read about that in schuam's or my textbooks. So now i understand a lot of stuff but I still havent memorized stuff like classification, ecology etc.

from my personal experience, I would suggest not to just read Schuam's rather use it while going over destroyer questions. It is really helpful!

I hope that helps. Good luck
