At my school we only took shelf exams for 3rd year clerkships: medicine, surgery, ob/gyn, etc... our scores were only used in the determination of our final clerkship grade: honors/satisfactory/unsatisfactory. The numerical score is not included in our transcripts; however, if one passes clinically yet receives an 'unsatisfactory' grade then it would be known that the student failed the shelf exam. This would be evident on the transcript. (So when a student with a previously failing score on the shelf successfully passes, a Satisfactory with an asterix would appear on his/her transcript.)
