I received an email asking me to interview at shanandoah in December. Anyone else interviewing.

How about current students on SDN at Shenandoah. Any heads up will be nice.

This is my second interview this cycle. I'll have one in November at RFUMS. I'm really bad at interviews and I feel like a huge loser because I need to study for an interview.

I applied to Shenandoah but my PTCAS stuff isn't calculated yet - I hope it gets done in time
How long did it take them to contact you?

You should study for an interview - especially if you know you aren't the best at them, nothing to feel stupid about. The more prepared you are, the less nervous you will be. I also get nervous before interviews (most people do, it means you actually want whatever it is your are interviewing for!) Think about all your experiences beforehand and special circumstances that you've been in that will help you answer behavioral/situational questions. Don't worry if you have to pause and think, and don't make up stories, just be honest, relax and be yourself. Review common questions before you go.
If you can, do a mock interview beforehand - my undergraduate school offers them. I did one once and it really helped. They even video taped you and watched it back with you, so you could see your body language. Nerve racking, but worth it

I've talked to some students who have interviewed and said some schools will try to frustrate you with their questions to see your reaction - like by asking you why you got a C in this class or why your GRE score isn't higher - don't get frustrated

If a school conducts interviews it generally means they are very important. It takes effort for the school to hold them and they want to discover who the best students actually are through the interviews, not just who has the best numbers, so you want to be prepared.

I applied there. Received an e-mail about 2 weeks ago saying they got my application and whatnot, but that's the last I heard from them. When did you submit your PTCAS? I'm hoping to hear back from them soon!!

So I receive their email today 10/14 at 9am. I submitted ptcas on 8/19 (yeah, real early) and I've been getting emails from them every week about them receiving my stuff. Let me see....I have an email I received on 9/27 saying that my application was received and then another one I received on 10/7 stating that my application is complete and 7 days later I got the interview email.

Awesome jbizzle. I appreciate the input. The last e-mail I received was that they received the electronic application and they will notify when all hard copies are received. I'm assuming they received it since PTCAS mailed them out on 9/30. Guess I'll receive an e-mail from them shortly confirming my application. I'm really hoping for an interview from them. My GPA was far from stellar, so I'm hoping they really look at the "whole picture" and not just focus on numbers. Thanks once again.

Hey guys, congrats on the interview. I'm a 1st year student in the PT program. I would recommend the program personally. Faculty is friendly and down to earth, facilities are nice, and there is no inter-class competition.

What to look forward to in the interview? You get a pretty straightforward 1 on 1 interview, a group interview, a tour, and most of the time is just spent chatting with faculty, current students, and other interviewees. Overall, not too much pressure. Let me know if you have any other questions about the program/interviews.

Haha, nice. Broett beat me to the punch. I'm a first year at SU as well, and am so happy I chose this school. Congrats- the invite for the interview is half the battle. Just use the search function to find some good interview tips. I used those last year when I applied to schools, and they def. made me feel more prepared for the big day. Always good to be overprepared, so even have good answers for q's we'd normally deem absurd. Pm me for any info...glad to help out. Good luck, and we'll hopefully be seeing you soon.

Thanks VAPT, I was sure you attended VCU...anyway..you've been a big help to me before.

jibizzle-

You said you received two emails - one saying your app was received and one saying it was complete. Was there originally something missing from your application that would have arrived in between there?
I received the email saying they received my application today. It should also be complete so I'm just wondering if I should look for a second email/call them if I don't receive one.

Also, what day is your interview in December? Did they offer you multiple dates?

Thanks!

perhaps i can shed some light and speak from my experience.

i sent in my ptcas on 9/15 and it was mailed out on 9/28. i received an e-mail from shenandoah 9/29 or 9/30 (i forget which date) saying they received my application and they will inform me when my application is complete.. well, here it is first week of november and they havent sent me another e-mail. i sent them an e-mail yesterday to make sure they received everything. im sure they have..they just probably forgot to shoot me an e-mail or somethin. all my other schools received everything successfully, so theres no reason why they shouldnt.

i'd give it a week or two and if they don't e-mail you, shoot them an e-mail.

Yeah, my GRE had to be sent. I actually received five emails looking back at everything:

Submitted PTCAS: 8/19/2010 (in which I had everything submitted to PTCAS such as transcripts, LORs, they even had my GPA calculated, observation hours. The only thing that schools would not have is my GRE. Pretty much my app was absolutely complete when I e-submitted)

1) Thank you letter for applying/considering the program - 8/26/2010
2) Application received - 9/27/2010
3) Application in review (which states that my app is complete (GRE received I think) and they are reviewing it) - 10/7/2010
4) Interview invitation - 10/14/2010
5) Email confirming I'm attending the interview (after I accepted it) - 10/19/2010

My interview is December 16, 2010. They did not give me the option to choose a date.

My GPA is not the greatest Overall/Pre-req are both 3.02, so a high GPA is not the reason why I heard this early. I just applied really early.

Since I have been accepted to one of my backup schools (which btw is creeping up the list of the schools I actually want to attend (cheap)) my nerves have calmed for the interviews, but I really, really would like to attend Temple or SU.

Shenandoahs PTCAS page says official GRE scores need to be sent for selected applicants only. Since PTCAS says otherwise, I emailed SU to make sure. This was at the end of September, Here is her reply:

Hi ---,
No, you do not need to submit the official scores unless you have been accepted into the program. Yes, but you will need to inform PTCAS of your new GRE scores and they will send us a revised application with the new scores on it. Multiple scores show that a student is trying to better. We take the highest scores form the different tests dates. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you should need anything else. Linda

I'm going to double check to make sure mine is complete. Shenandoah is definantly one of my top choices too, although my GPA isn't the strongest either. Good Luck! Hopefully I'll be joining you on December 16th
Thanks for the help 🙂

Oh yeah, I do remember reading that. Anyway, this is the time frame for Shanandoah University Admissions process. Their web site is pretty badass too, has a lot of information

sent them an e-mail a week ago.. no response.. called the admissions office last week..nothing.. just called again and left another message.

obviously communication is not one of their strong points.

ugh that is annoying. I've had trouble reaching a few schools in Virginia

I would keep calling, and maybe in your next email say that you've tried to call or that you left a message. You could also ask if you're contacting the right person and if not, if they can direct you to the right person (even though, you are contacting the right person). It is a busy time, so be persistent.

we'll see what happens. i'll give it another day or two until i call back again and send another e-mail. i just want a simple response.

still no reply. im just gonna keep calling and leaving messages to fill up their voicemail. once they realize their voicemail is full, maybe they'll reply.

I got an interview for January 7th! 🙂 anyone else going to be there that day?

I know people ive met at my other interviews have one then too. They were pretty cool.

congrats psu..im assuming you heard through e-mail? thats kinda odd all these people are hearing back and im getting shafted here when i submitted my ptcas back in mid september

ill give them more calls tomorrow and figure out whats up. theyre really pissin me the **** off

Yeah those people I met said they heard back in October too, and they had originally scheduled on Dec 16, but they had it rescheduled because of their finals. It's weird that you haven't heard yet????

Thanks! I just got the email this morning. 🙂

Did they give you a time for your interview? I'm assuming I'll get another email with more information
Also, I read a post from last year saying that some students Ashburn campus and some are at the Winchester campus. Is this true?

Good Luck to both of you

It's at 8am. You'll get another email once you accept their invitation and the email has all that info on it.

I just got to thinking. I applied to FIU also. Not saying that FIU is lower school or anything. But if Temple and Shenandoah invited me for an interview I might get one from them too. Which will add to my problems in making a decision. See, girls in Florida wear their shorts differently than girls the further north you get from here 😉.

I just got my email, mine is at noon!🙂 Are you driving there that morning? I live about 3.5 hrs away and my boyfriend lives in DC which is about 2 hrs with traffic. Not sure what I'll do yet. I'll probably stay with him and drive up in the am, since it's not an 8am.

i applied to fiu too bizzle. havent heard anything from them yet neither.

as for shenandoah, i guess all i can do is keep calling. everytime i call, linda is unavailable. im even trying the alternate number listed on ptcas. i just want some answers here. last i heard from them was then they received the electronic version of my ptcas which was the first week in october (ptcas submitted 9/15). they have my application, i know that.. its just a matter of what they're waiting for here

Awesome. Mine is in December. Winchester, VA is like a 14-16 hour drive from where I'm from. I'm flying into IAD and driving 1 hour to Winchester. To be honest traveling to these interviews are pretty fun. I'm always trying to figure out if someone else on the plane is going to the same place I'm going. I haven't met anyone yet though lol. Good luck, I'll let you know how it goes. I've heard good things about the program and it is way "cheaper" than Temple.

Muscles - your stats aren't far off of mine and actually we have the same degree - Penn State Kines, right? I have a 3.3 overall, but my prereq isn't that great - around a 3.0, possibly less. I also got a rough start at Penn State first semester, but my GPA improved every semester. My physics and physiology grades aren't good but I did ace exercise physiology later so maybe that helped. I also have a psych minor and 300+ hours. Hopefully, PSU helps us here - just curious when did you graduate?

ya we'll see. i still havent heard anything but its alright. ive pretty much given up on them. the fact they cant e-mail me back or call me is an indication of the program they have there. it's very unprofessional. my gpa improved over the semesters and whatnot. my overall isnt something im particularly proud of, but it is what it is. the organic chem's hurt my gpa but what can ya do..i cant go back and change that. i have over 1,000 hours at the current moment. it would be nice to find a school that actually takes a look at the applicant as a whole, but unfortunately not many of those schools exist.

I agree. It really peeves me when people don't get back to you on something. Maybe once, ok maybe twice... but repeatedly? Come on! I work at a university and I get a gazillion emails a day, but I can respond to students in a timely fashion!!

totally agree with you guys, I would be annoyed too, especially after calling/leaving messages.

Ochem? ouch. I know a good handful of people who failed/dropped it at psu

Yeah, it was a difficult class. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it certainly didn't help my GPA. I did manage to get a B+ in the Ochem lab...go figure 🙄

Just looking through the staff page for Shenandoah to prep for the interview next week and Dr. Hale is a graduate of PSU Kines program. She got he BS and Ph.D in Kines at PSU.

yes! I did notice that, but thanks anyways! Nice of you to think of posting that on here. I'm hoping she is present for my interview :xf:

Good luck next week!🙂

Woot. Shenandoah is pretty awesome. I didn't get the same "wow" effect that I got from Temple but the program is solid. The only reason I didn't get that "wow" effect is that the 1st year students didn't display the "closeness" that i was looking for but maybe I'm wrong and BroettMitchell and vapt can clarify that. I felt like the interview went ok but I don't want to be too confident because I don't want to ge a flat out rejection from them. They impressed menwith their international opportunities. Also a "free" iPhone, iPod, iPad I you attend, technology fee for tuition covers it so not really free lol, and theydupply this for podcast-great resource as all current students say. Faculty interaction is pretty close I say, profs are called by their first names lol what is that? Anyway, pretty awesome school. I wish it would stop snowing so I can walk around Winchester.

Thanks for all the feedback Jbizzle...and hey, if we all go, we'll be awesome 🙂

So glad to hear of other people being interviewed by Shenandoah! I have my interview on January 27th and I'm SO excited. Dr. Schrank got his bachelor's from Texas A&M, which is where I go, so I'm hoping to meet him! Do y'all have any helpful hints to share about the interview process? Would be cool if we all ended up in the same class 🙂

What? They interview that late? Damn, my chances has gotten even slimmer. I thought the last interviews were Jan 6 & 7. Eforma, you see this?

It's funny you bring up Dr. Schrank, he was one of my interviewers. They just asked the basic questions really. They will have your entire application in front of them when they interview you actually so just make sure you know yourself pretty well. PM me for more or PM current students that are on SDN.

Awesome. I was at 12 months. Winchester, VA is where I like a 14-16 hour drive from. I fly into IAD and 1 hour drive from Winchester. Honestly go to these interviews is quite interesting. I always try to find out if someone else's car is in the same place, I went prepared.

@ Jbizzle... yeah I got an email from Linda on Dec 27th saying she could change my interview to Jan 27th....long story short I was able to make it work 🙂 So I'm having a ball right now in Barcelona and not having to stress about getting back for the first round of interviews! But I'll def let people know how things go after I am there.

@aggiejg11...if you wanna grab a drink on the 26th in Winchester and talk things out so we are all good to go, let me know 😉

That would be great! So although you're technically interviewing for a separate program you still interview at the same time? I'm glad I'll know somebody there! And JBizzle, let us know what happens with SU's decision this week!

@ aggiejg11 -- The way the dual degree works is that I have to get into both programs (DPT and MSAT) separate of eachother, then they rank the top 5 and offer them spots. So on the 27th I'll have interviews at Shenandoah w/ both programs (it's gonna be a long day!)

Hey guys - I had my interview at Shenandoah this past weekend. They said they interview 80 applicants total. They offer 10 acceptances after the December interview dates, 10 more after the Jan 6-7 interview dates, and they will offer the final 20 after the 27th interview date, when all the interviews are finished.

So they said the majority of us will be waitlisted, but that it's not a bad thing to be waitlisted. They said they were 2/3rd of the way into their waitlist last year.

For those interviewing on the 27th, it doesn't sound like many people will be there at all, if the 80 students number is accurate. There were 29 interviewed Jan 6th and about 16? or so on the 7th. Jbizzle also said there were a good number interviewed in December.

Also, when we were all finished they told anyone who was interested in the dual program to stick around and speak with 2 of the professors. None of these people had yet applied for it (they asked earlier if anyone applied).

Hmm, wow, I guess not that many people applied for the dual degree program. At my interview there was only one person that applied.

Thanks for sharing, psu17! Did you feel like it went well? And did they give you any indication as to when you'd be hearing from them?

No problem
I think it went pretty well. My interview was kind of tough, so we will see.

They told us we will prob hear around the 1st week of February (after that last interview date at the end of Jan). They said those 10 people that are accepted per interview date will hear sooner than that

How was it tough? In the GRE, the computer throws tougher questions at you the more you answer correctly, so maybe it was the same type of situation where they thought you were doing exceptionally well and wanted to see how much you knew. 🙂Who interviewed you?

has anyone heard back and been accepted since their interview? They told us in december that we would hear mid january.. but i havent heard anything yet..

I still have not heard back. I was at the 8AM session on 12/16.

I was interviewed the first week of January. I haven't heard back but from what I understood the 10 people they accepted from each group would hear within a week or two while everyone else would hear the first week of February (placed on a waitlist until the last interviews were over)

I know they told the December group something different though, so who knows. I'm wondering if they told the December interviewees they would hear by January with the intentions of giving everyone who wasn't one of the 10 accepted people a waitlist letter, since you would have a longer wait until February

hopefully they just didn't send out any letters yet though! haha

Hey guys, I got an interview for Jan 27th too. Just got the email so I must have been right on the cuff 🙄 but ill take it!

Any advice on the interview, any questions that threw you guys for a loop etc? This will only be my second interview, but I also have one the next friday after, so I need all the tips I can get!!

Thanks!
