Any incoming/current med students have experience with shipping their car across the country? Does anyone have any recommendations for companies (I'm shipping from CA to the midwest)? Also, I was thinking of filling my car with stuff I need so that I don't have to ship or carry-on so much stuff, but do car shipping companies charge by weight, or do they not care if you put stuff into your car when you ship it? Thanks for any input.

The car will most likely have to be empty.

I've used DAS in the past with good results.

I'm almost positive they charge by weight. My brother is at an internship this summer in Cali (we live in Ohio) and we were going to ship it until he found out it was crazy expensive...

It's pretty expensive to ship a car ($500-$1500). Why not drive the car with the stuff in it? Won't make the trip?

I'm actually considering the shipping option. I applied to many MD's that are on the east coast so that's fine considering I live on the east coast, but many of the DO schools I've applied to are in the south or the west coast. I live with my girlfriend and she would be coming with me to whichever school I get into (fingers crossed, at least). We both have cars and if I ended up getting into a Nova or something, it would be fairly difficult to drive both cars across the country.

Too bad they charge by weight. 🙁 I was going to stuff my car full of belongings but will not do that anymore. I've never driven across the country before, and I don't really feel like doing it. My car's in good condition, but I don't want to wear it down by driving 2500 miles in one go.
