Did not get alot of feedback on the "What are my chances forum" so I decided to post here.

I have a pretty balanced 33 (no section below 10, I took it only once for what its worth). I have done summer medical internships, (SMDEP at Yale, Cornell SURF and Upitt Track I). I am president of an organization on campus, serverd as a tutor, teaching assitant and residential mentor. I shadowed alot in at high school ( 100 hours..I will include this because I continued this in college) and decently in undergrad (~30ish hours). Please guys do not give me advice on how to increase my chances.. I am sending in my application very soon. I just need to know my chances at the schools below (note: these are not the only schools I am applying to). I am a black guy who will be applying disadvantaged due to several reasons. I have been approved for FAP.

So the break down

MCAT: 33
GPA: BCMP-3.96, oGPA-3.9
E.Cs: Decent
School: Non-Ivy, not prestigous

Baylor College of Medicine
Columbia University College of P&S
Harvard Medical School ( I have not taken cal...maybe if I get in I will take it the summer prior matriculating)
Mayo Medical School
Stanford University
University of Chicago-Pritzker
University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
Weil Medical College of Cornell
Yale University

I don't have a magic ball or anything, but I think your chances are pretty good. Realistically speaking there aren't a lot of black males applying to med school with numbers like that, so you will definitely catch their attention. I am a black male myself (applying this cycle as well) and when I talk to admissions deans/deans of diversity/minority affairs, they are LITERALLY searching for qualified black males because we are so scarce in todays medical schools. its good that you are applying early. Good luck!

Which schools did you talk to in particular?

your list is very top-heavy, I think you'll be ok with those stats, but I'd add a few safeties or your state schools just to be sure. You only listed 10 schools, so you can add 4 more for free since you have fap approval.

-edit-
just re-read your post, you can probably ignore what I wrote above

as for your chances at those schools, I can't really offer you any informed advice.

I wouldn't say it's shooting too high, but--with such an unpredictable selection process--I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry.

These schools are not the only ones I am applying to. I have ties to Texas so I will be applying to the schools there. I should be considered a resident. So in all I am applying to 16 schools

University of Texas at Southwestern
TCOM
Texas Tech HSC
Texas Tech El Paso
University of Texas San Antionio
University of Texas Galvenston
University of Texas Houston
Columbia University College of P&S
Harvard Medical School ( I have not taken cal...maybe if I get in I will take it the summer prior matriculating)
Mayo Medical School
Stanford University

I think you're fine in applying to these schools. For Penn, the minimum GPA and MCAT score are a 3.5 and 30. You should talk to someone in the Diversity office and see what they think. I am sure you're going to do well this cycle. Just submit now and have everything done

Go ahead and apply. But if in Texas: when I was a student there I found out that Baylor had nice scholarships for their minorities which really helps out. Plus the way their system is structured you could be done with medical school as early as October senior year from what I remember. In addition, in Texas your education is going to be much cheaper than if you go most other places and I don't buy into the hole "big name" university stuff either. You can do well anywhere you go and that will determine your residency options, not necessarily the name of your medical school. And in Texas u have UTSW, UTMB, and Baylor with the bigger names. Just look at rank lists from the Texas med schools and see where people have gone and what they have done.

I think, go wherever they offer you a good scholarship because with your stats, someone is bound to offer you one. And I wouldn't apply to TCOM unless you really wanted to be an osteopath. I have no problems with osteopaths, but you will be fighting a harder battle in the end. I applied there myself, but did not have your stats which will very well likely get you into an MD school without problems.

Good luck and congrats on your hard work.

Your combination of a high MCAT and high GPA at a baseline would put you into a good position to get an interview at any of the schools on your list. Add to the fact that you are an endangered species in medicine (black male) will make you very appealing. The only things that can hose you are a terrible personality which are quickly seen in your interview and overconfidence. The personality thing I can't help you with. However you can guard against overconfidence by making sure you apply to low, mid, and top tier programs. Although it's extra money its much better to start med school now a little broke than to risk not getting in this year.

I think you are on your way man. Stay humble and I believe you will get one of your top choices

I'm not a URM but I just want to say have confidence, you have a good chance to get multiple acceptances. Just make sure that medicine is what you want to do with your life (as much as you can - that just means do enough shadow and volunteer stuff to have reasonable knowledge that you'll like taking care of patients). You're a good candidate to get in somewhere and as mentioned above, someone will likely offer you scholarship(s). From personal experience, I can tell you that it's painful paying off large loans and it takes years and years. Therefore, if someone offers you a large scholarship and it's a decent school I think you should strongly consider taking it.

I also don't think you need to apply to the osteopathic school unless you want to be an osteopathic doc. Just don't act arrogant in your interviews and I think you can expect multiple interviews and probably multiple acceptances.

While your chances are excellent and the possibility of getting into one of those colleges is within reasonable expectation, not accounting for the possibility of failure by applying to only top colleges is a huge mistake. Look at the GPA/MCAT grid that the AAMC releases. While you do get a 92%+ acceptance rate with your stats, there are still those that do not get in. I would strongly recommend applying to a few OOS reasonable schools like NYU, Tufts, Penn State, George Washington, and Boston U.

Hi....🙂
Remember to practise your gun mounting. Just because it’s a fun shoot don’t think it doesn’t matter - you may as well do it properly. You’ll almost certainly shoot more consistently and as a consequence gain more pleasure from your day.Get your body position and gun hold position correct in relation to taking the shot.Remember to lead with your left hand (for the right-hander).Practice your footwork and balance - no one will notice, just think about it a little more.Once mounted, keep your cheek firmly on the stock throughout - don’t raise your head off the stock until the shot has been completed...🙂
