Hey guys!
I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight. I just had an interview at Iowa which was supposed to be about an hour. However I was out in 30 minutes. I was by far the first one done. I had prepared a lot and had answers to every questions they asked me. But I thought they would ask me more than 6 questions. They also didn't really prod me with any follow up questions but seemed satisfied with the answers I gave. I also didn't get a chance to talk about as much as I did want, and my interview was highly focused on my wildlife experience. I didn't get a chance to talk about all the other things I wanted to and they never asked any general questions I could have slipped it in. What do you guys think? Did I bomb the interview and they just wanted to cut it short?

There is absolutely no way to answer this lol. You literally just never know what they are thinking and the best thing to do, is be happy its over, relax, and wait to hear from them. You are gonna drive yourself NUTSO otherwise!:scared: You can't think that much into it... I know its VERY hard not to, but I honestly don't think any of us can even begin to tell you what the interviewers thought 😕. You're finished... celebrate, and then hurry up and wait 😉😛

I agree with Emilou, unless you said something like I really hope to get into ____ school but if I don't, I'll come here or something like that or made up answers to things they asked that didn't confirm what your VMCAS or supplemental said (like one said you had 1,000s of hours then you said you shadowed there for a week in the interview or something like that).

I too was asked a ton of stuff about my wildlife rehab experience and it made me :scared: that they thought I wanted to be a rehabber not a vet and I worried about my interview a ton, but in the end I was accepted and even if I hadn't been, all the worrying didn't help because there was nothing I could do to change the interview.

So, like Emilou said, be happy that you're done and try to relax while you wait. Thinking about your interview is only gonna make you doubt yourself and you don't want to go there.

I too was curious about Iowa's interview since it says an hour but their verbage was that each interview is "slotted for an hour." Meaning you have up to an hour but it can be shorter than an hour.

I would not be too worried about how short your interview was. If you prepared for all the questions and gave concise responses your interview will be shorter than someone who did not prepare and spends time thinking of responses to each of the questions. In addition, your interviewers might not have had any interesting follow up questions they could think of.

Last year, I interviewed at Ohio state, and my interview was about 30 minutes, though most people were in longer than me. It was similar to your case - I was very prepared, and had concise, well thought out answers. Needless to say, I was accepted, so interview length isn't really a predictor of acceptance, IMHO. Try not to worry about it (I know, easier said than done, right?). Good luck!

Thank you guys so much 🙂 I felt pretty confident about my answers, but there are always regrets. At least it taught me to slow down lol. Thanks for the encouraging answers and guidance!

Also remember that each interviewer is an individual and whoever interviewed you was probably just not the type to have a long conversation. If they were slightly socially anxious or just one of those people that is brief and to the point, they wouldn't take as long as someone more chatty. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you forgot to wear pants or something!
