I got a call on monday from a medical school asking me to come in on thursday of the same week to interview. Has anyone else experienced a notice for an interview as short as this?? I of course said yes, but have been busting my ass to get all my stuff in order and ready to interview tomorrow...

its bound to get asked, so i'll do the honors: which school? 🙂

Do you live within 60-90 minute drive of the school? If so, they may consider you "local" and perhaps did you the "favor" of calling when they had a last minute cancellation. You should be happy to have the interview and they should be happy to have filled an interview slot on short notice.

Yea, as my grandma would say, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!" I would love for any of my local schools to see that I live less than an hour away and give me an invite asap!!! For one of them, it'd be like "Um, I'm in the next building over, can I come over right now???" 😳

:luck: :luck: :luck: on your interview OP!

University of Washington. I live 30 minutes away. They even told me it was because of a cancellation. I was trying to think of any negative aspects of a school asking me to fill an interview spot on short notice and couldn't, aside from needing to quickly prepare. I'm pretty stoked about the interview, as it's my first, but also a little nervous since it is with the intense adcomm of UW. My application was totally complete less than 3 weeks ago with them, so I'm hoping this is all a good sign.

Here's my take:
They got a cancellation. They have far more great applicants than they have interview slots and rather than let one go to waste they call one of those great applicants who happens to live in a nearby zip code and ask "can you be here asap"

The up-side of short notice is that you have less time for the anticipation (and nervousness) to build!

:luck:

Very true. With what I have done in the past three days as far as preparation, I think it has been enough time anyway. I have reviewed my research papers, AMCAS, secondaries, done some recent health issue research, read bioethics issues, followed up more research on avian flu (what I wrote my thesis on) and am formulating questions for the adcomm at the end of my interview. Realistically, I would have procrastinated and done this in three days had I been given a month notice anyway, so I guess it's just as well...

Interview invitation from NYU on a friday, called on Monday to schedule and they asked me if I could make it in for an interview on Tuesday 😱 I ended up scheduling it for Wed. because I go to school in MD and could not make it there in such short notice. I did not live in a 30 mile radius or anything, I think they just don't give a lot of notice. It was my first interview too, so I didn't have much time to prep. I really hope it went ok because NYU is def my first choice of the schools I've visit so far!

Similar thing happened to me with UMASS... they apparantly sent an e-mail on 10/19 but I never got it. They called the Thursday before my interview (which was today) to confirm. I had barely a week to prepare and it was my first real interview :scared: But everything turned out alright.

Definately take it!

Good god lol, I hope it wasn't spam filters that took away your email. This is probably the best season for spam bots to hit up pre-meds as most of em will probably turn them off just in case.

Yep, that happened to me with Emory. I received the email on 10/16 and was asked to interview on 10/23. I took it nonetheless because I love the school!!! BTW...I work at Emory so I only had to walk accross the street. 😀

I was asked two days in advance for a state that was several flight hours away.

One of my schools gave me a list of dates to choose from, but they were all in the 1-2 week range.

The interesting thing was the other interviewees in my group all completed their secondaries at least a month before me. 😕

just booked a flight today to penn on tuesday. i'm in chicago. short notice = damn expensive air fare!

I got an interview invite on Monday for Wednesday. I thought that was pretty short, but then I read in the email that I had to respond within the next 30 minutes to claim the spot. Of course, it had been a few hours since they had sent the email so I missed that one. Thankfully, I rescheduled for a month later.

Tell me about it! I look longingly out the window across the street....

I hear ya. I also look desperate with anticipation every time i see the Dean of Admissions walk past me in the hallway.

got an email on friday about a monday interview in new orleans (i live in dc)...never thought flyin to new orleans would be so expensive!

I got an e-mail from the U of MN Twin Cities on a wednesday for a friday interview. It still through me for a loop even though I live only 30 minutes from the U. I had to clear time off from work.

They gave you 30 minutes to respond? 😱 😱 😱 You're kidding, right?

 I couldn't believe it the first time I read the email either. They must have been trying to fill a last minute cancellation. Or maybe they were trying to make the situation as stressful as possible 🙄

I had a few laughs with the admissions office about it and we rescheduled the interview so it all worked out.
