I am currently a junior that is planning on applying to the 2022-2023 cycle.

Stats: 3.922, 514(131/127/128/128)

Clinical volunteer hours: 480

Paid clinical hours: I just got a scribe job and will work until I apply so ~360ish projected

Non clinical volunteer hours: 459

Paid non clinical hours: 385

Shadowing: 50 (even btw cardiothoracic surgeon and ob-gyn private practice)

Research: none

So I failed physical chemistry, but because the professor was so bad, the undergrad director of the chemistry department allowed everyone in the class to change to P/F at the end of the semester if they wanted. I changed it, so it doesn't affect my GPA but it still looks pretty bad I think. I was planning on applying broadly since my stats/hours are medium and I don't have any research hours, but I am wondering if I should apply to more DO than MD since I failed a class too.

I am a texas resident, so I am applying to all TMDSAS schools.

You're fine. You're correct that it doesn't look great, but it's one class and you have a 3.9. One class is not the difference between MD and DO for anyone.

You should do whatever you were going to do anyway, and not think a single F is going to determine your outcome, because it won't. Good luck!!

Do you have a MCAT score? Are you going to retake the Chem class? You’re applying to Texas schools. Do well on the MCAT and you’ll probably be okay.

Physical Chemistry isn't a required class for TMDSAS so you don't need to retake it, @Dooley12.
You could add TCOM and SHSU, the two DO schools included on the TMDSAS application.

No need for DO apps unless you're really interested in it. No MD school is going to reject you for having an F in your transcript.

Why didn't you change the grade to a P?

???? How do you change a F to a P?

He did change to P/F so the F wouldn't be included in his GPA, but what else could he do? What school gives you a P after you fail a class under a P/F system? Wouldn't that be a P/P system? 🙂
