Hello to All,
I am planning on taking the DATs this summer. Yes, I am studying hard. My problem is that my GPA is horrible. it's about a 2.5. If I apply to school this summer they will see my ugly GPA. I still have seven more classes (one year worth) of undergrand left to graduate in 2012. Should I apply this summer or should I wait until next summer to boost my GPA. My science GPA is worse, so should I re-take some science courses (I finished all sciences) if I wait to apply next summer. I would obviously rather apply this summer to get in next Summer and not waste a year but I know I most likely screwed myself :bang:. I would like to get in somewhere on the east coast (I live in NY). If I apply this summer, how awesome do I have to do on the DATs (I'm shooting for the skies). What do you guys think I should do?

Also, if this helps i am an american-born caucasian. I know it'll probably make the case worse for me. 🙁

Thanks so much in advance!!!

:help:

To be realistic, it is pretty difficult for you to get in this cycle. Even if you have already taken DAT and submitted on June 1st, there are very little chance for the person to get in with 2.5 cGPA and lower sGPA.

My recommendation would be, save the money you going to use in application to buy additional study material for DAT and make sure to do really well on the DAT. If you can pull off > 22AA and 4.0 GPA with all science courses next year (fill the semester with as many science courses as you can). Maybe re-take the classes you got lower than C. (i recommend not re-taking a class that you got C or B in)

You said you have taken "all science courses" but did you mean about pre-req or all upper level science courses available at your University? If you haven't taken upper-level science courses, then i recommend you taking that right away and fill your schedule with it. (science courses not only raise your cGPA but also sGPA. Do not take easy courses to raise your GPA bc it won't make that much difference to adcoms).

In the end: save your money for this cycle and apply next year with better stats. You can try it this year but it is difficult.

YOu should definitely call the school you want to apply to and ask them what is your best bet from here on out (but take your DAT first and call so they can tell you more in detail)

good luck

Apply next year. Bring the GPA up, study like hell for the DAT, add some worthwile extracirricular things in the course of a year and you will be set.

GPA of 2.5 will be a waste of money to apply. Not impossible but it's also not impossible to get hit by lightning 3 times in a week.
