Hello Everyone I have a question for everyone and just trying to get an opinion here.

Overall GPA 3.3
Science Gpa 3.23
Dat 21 21 21
GPA First 2 years of College 2.91
GPA After last 2 years brought up GPA to a 3.3 so upward trend with GPA being about 3.5 overall my last 2 years.
Roughly 200-300 Shadowing/Volunteer hours at a dental practice that specializes in cosmetic surgery.
Working Full Time all throughout college as a Pool-Man for family business in order to keep business afloat due to injuries to father.
Also had some other family stuff that happens I'm sure to everyone so I doubt it makes that much of a difference in my application. Everyone has some sob story.

Plan on taking summer classes, fall and spring which should be about 44-45 Semester Units more. I am more then confident I will do extremely well in these classes since each class I plan on taking I have had the professor before and is also a Subject (physiology, an endocrinology class, anatomy and some GE classes) I did extremely well in with a minimum grade of A-

My question then becomes should I apply this year or just wait until next years application when my GPA will be higher giving me a better chance. I know my GPA is low and I messed up that blame falls on me, so I should have found a way to make it work. Also if I do not get in would it be a better idea to go for an MPH or rather do a post bac?

Then my last question is this, I want to apply to NYU, would it affect the way they look at my application at all if my LOR is from a dentist who went to dental school there?

I would definitely apply. Your gpa is not great but its not terrible either. Your dat should compensate.

You will be fighting an uphill battle, but you are within reaches of getting into dental school if you apply this cycle. Your DAT score is good, and your GPA isn't that terrible. If you apply to the right schools, you have a decent shot. Either way, you should continue taking classes for the next year in case you do have to re-apply. As for your dental LOE, I don't think it will make any difference whether the LOE comes from a dentist who went to NYU or not.

Yeah molar I pretty much realized I'm fighting an uphill better because of my screw-ups during the beginning of my college education. Thats why I was just trying to gain some advice of which would be a better choice to do. Since if I gain the grades I expect to get I can raise my overall GPA to 3.42 or roughly around there.

It really depends. I think you can get in with your GPA/DAT scores...SOMEWHERE. However, is your goal to get in somewhere, or rather, do you want to have a choice in dental school?

Most likely, you'll get accepted into one school and thats that. You are going there, no questions asked. With 45 credits of straight A's, you'll have a higher gpa and most likely more interviews/acceptances next year. Therefore, you can "choose" the school that you want to go to. To me, it was nice having a choice.

I had lower stats than you and I got a couple of interviews and more than one acceptance. I would apply this year if I were in your shoes. I don't see the point in wasting a year (that you could have spent getting through D1) just to try to have a variety of schools to pick from. For the most part, dental school is dental school (or at least that's how I see it). Plus, you'll be able to update your AADSAS in February (I think - it's been a while since I've done AADSAS) with more of your coursework, boosting your chances of a later interview at schools who skipped over you to begin with.

Peachy, would it be alright if I may ask you what your stats were if you don't mind providing that info.

I'd apply to 15 schools (pick them wisely, OOS friendlies only)
