Hey everyone,

I'm a Canadian student from BC and was rejected pre-interview at all canadian schools I applied to. I did my masters in the US and am dying to go back at the first chance (financially it made sense to apply to canadian schools first...).

My AMCAS cGPA is 3.47 and science GPA is 2.9 (havent taken physics or biochem yet.. likely will redo all the BCMP courses)

I wrote the MCAT once (in 2011.. so maybe it's expired for most schools in the US now?) and scored a 30R (11P/9VR/10B).

This might sound crazy.. but it is my dream to go to Hopkins... I did a masters in science there and absolutely fell in love with the school. I know it's a crazy longshot but would love any advice to get into ANY school at this point, realistically.

Should I do a SMP, or do a 2nd UG degree here in Canada? Do most schools look at cumulative GPA? some Canadian schools will be forgiving and only look at 2-3 most recent years of study...

Thanks for any help!!

Do you want to go to Hopkins, any US MD program, any US MD or DO program, or any Canadian program? The answer depends on which of those it is. You mention retaking BCMP classes; that will work for US DO and some Canadian programs, not for US MD. With that 30R on the books, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to do anything that will get you any better than very, very long odds at Hopkins.

i am looking at pretty much ANY MD program really.. I just mentioned Hopkins because I'm shooting for the stars and wanted to know if there was ANYTHING i could do to even get looked at there.....

Thanks again for any input!

The most concerning thing is definitely the sGPA of 2.9. Schools look at both cGPA and sGPA, and that is pretty far below the standard for most schools. When you say that you still have to take Physics and Biochemistry, is that both Physics courses (i.e. a total of 12 hours)? If you ace those, will that significantly affect your sGPA? If not, you may want to look at additional coursework to bring that up.

Your MCAT is not out of range to get you into some medical schools, but if you think that you can improve, getting closer to a 35 will help balance out your GPA a little bit.

Hopkins is definitely a stretch unless you have really groundbreaking ECs. If you can get your sGPA up into at least the low 3s, you should be able to get into some school in the states. DO schools are definitely an option.
