Should I apply to more schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Your near perfect GPA will compensate for a bad PCAT score. A 70 or above will be fine for you. A 60-69 score could get you in, but that's pushing it so I wouldn't risk a low score like that.

If you can't get a pharmacy tech job, try looking at hospitals for a couple of shadowing opportunities. You have plenty of time, and I know from experience that Wingate is not a rolling admissions school.

I've never heard anything about schools shying away from potential protest groups. However, given that non-pharmacy extracurriculars only have a small percentage to do with acceptance, it wouldn't kill your application to leave that out nor will it make-or-break your application unless your adcom is a Greenpeace member.😉

As for schools, the number is fine with your GPA. You seem to have a slant toward more the northeastern quadrant of the U.S., so you could diversify your selection a little. Just focus on the PCAT this summer and get your applications into the schools. There's a PCAT forum on SDN if you ever need help.

I'm applying to 5 schools this year..Lecom (Erie), Pitt, WVU, Kentucky, Wingate. My stats are ok, they have their high and low points.

Overall GPA-3.9 Science GPA-4.0
PCAT- Taking it in June and probably in August too (Im a bad test taker)
Experience- worked at vet clinic 1 year, worked with Ochem teacher doing research 3+months
Extra-Honors Program, Student Alliance for the well-being of animals (Should I put that on my application, I read somewhere that schools shy away from students who were members of "potential protest" groups, even though we never protested)

my lack of pharmacy-related experience and possible bad PCAT scores could hurt my chances. Should I apply other places?

If you're just applying to those 5 schools because you really really really want to go to those five, you should be ok...but seeing how you could potentially get a pretty good PCAT score (maybe 85 or higher...you never know), you shouldn't sell yourself short. With your stats, you could definitely go for some of the more competitive programs. Also, you may want to consider some schools which don't require the PCAT.

As omnione mentioned above, you will want to look for pharmacy experience in the interim so you can add it to your application.

I only applied to 4 schools. None required the PCAT (California quirk). I got accepted to 1 with a 3.5/3.59 split. I probably should have applied to a couple more schools, but I got lucky enough to get into USC. With your GPA, I'd say chances are good enough you wouldn't HAVE to, but if you wanted to toss a couple extra schools on, it wouldn't hurt (other than financially)

It looks like you want to stay within a particular geographic region🙂

Lecom-Erie doesn't require the PCAT. You could always find other schools in your chosen geographic area that don't require the PCAT. If you are willing to head West may I suggest the following non-PCAT schools: USN, Pacific(Oregon) and UCSF.

You might be fine with only five schools. Your GPA is above average! It will depend on how well you interview and how well you do on your essays and such. Also, applying to more schools will mean more time on your part. Sometimes it is better just to focus on a few schools and concentrate your efforts there, epescially if your gpa is good; which you do have going for you🙂 So maybe you should just get some pharmacy shadowing, volunteer, or work experience and not apply to any more schools.

Best wishes with your decision.

I checked on Pharmcas, and it does say Lecom(Erie) requires PCAT ???

Lecom-Erie didn't require PCAT this year, but maybe they've changed their requirements? Anyone know about this? 🙂

"My stats are OK?" Honey, I'd kill for stats like yours 🙂.

with stat like that, you will get in at least lecom or wingate. But for wingate, make sure you ask a lot of questions during the group interview

Are u seriously for real in being inconfident? ("my stats are ok, should I apply to more school, etc...) or you just want some attention????
People like you are annoying to others....

apply to as many as possible, nothing wrong with bettering your chances. of course, it will cost more dough.

+1 on that. jesus! you're going to be fine... if you got less than an 80 on PCAT id be damn surprised since PCAT is just a review test

....worked at vet clinic 1 year....

I am assuming you used to be pre-vet. I was pre-vet for three years!!

I can understand why you would think that your stats might be "average." Vet school is pretty difficult to get into and the people who handle vet admissions constantly tell potential applications that they need more than a "good gpa."

I am currently applying to pharmacy schools, so I can't exactly vouch for you stats; however, they seem pretty darn good to me. Just apply and confidently follow through with the application process!

thank you jitaka....thats exactly how i've been feeling
