Hi guys,

im relatively new to the whole post-bac situation, i was wondering if anyone would look at my stats and the schools im applying to and see if i should be competitive at the programs i hope to go to, or if i should apply to more.

The schools that im looking at are:

Bryn mawr
Scripps
John Hopkins

My stats:
Im 22 y/o
1 year as an ER RN
undergrad GPA 3.64 w/ a nursing fellowship and full scholarship
volunteered at a free rural clinic for 6 months and at a hospice organization for 2 years.
old 2001 SAT score: 1230
old highschool gpa: a weak 3.0
I got good letters of rec. from the assistant director of the ER i work at and from the director of my undergrad major (both mailed me a copy for my own files).
I did take one semester of pre-med biology: A, chemistry: A, and physics: A+

If anyone who is knowledable about the post-bac options and the programs could give me their 2 cents on my chances of getting in either on this thread or through a private message it'd be GREATLY appreciated😍. I really want to go to a post bac next year to focus and finish my courses so if i need to apply to more program to increase my chances it'd be really nice to know!
I've heard the programs im applying to are extremely competitive and maybe im undershooting myself by only applying to these 3? any thoughts?

Thanks 😉

which other post-bacs would be good to look at?

I applied to three and had no issues. It sounds like your stats are fairly competitive at top postbacs but it wouldn't hurt to call the admissions people and see how they think where you stand. Postbac admissions people are going to be a lot more forthright with you about your chances than med schools in my opinion, mostly because they have far less application volume. However, the top postbacs do still have hundreds if not thousands of applicants for a much smaller amount of spots, and probably have similar acceptance percentages to competitive med schools. The vast majority of the students they accept are ones they deem acceptable to med school because the top postbacs have ~100% acceptance percentages to med school for the most part. The one top postbac you're missing is Goucher, which along with Scripps and BM are considered the top 3 in terms of acceptance percentage.

Groucher said i wasnt eligible b/c i took one semester of physics, bio, and chem... how sad haha 🙁

It's ok... i have my mind set on medical school and i figure one way or another it will work out. If i don't get into a post-bac i already applied to a local state school to finish my pre-requs, and at least ill beable to save some $ for med school... But i really do hope i get to do a post-bac, they seem so much more focused, and with a nursing shortage i have a hard time at turning down $75/hr overtime =).... hehe but i know ill have to when im serious about studying my pre-med. It's all about delayed gratification right? 😉

Good luck with your apps. Did you talk to the admissions people at the three postbacs that you are applying to?

I talked to john hopkins and bryn mawr, both seemed like they wanted to take a look at my full app, slightly positive but not overly enthusiastic... thats good enough for me.

Scripps hasn't returned my email or phone call.. so whatever ill just turn in the app

It sounds like you'd be a competitive candidate at all three applying early, I'd say go for it.
