3.6 GPA (almost entirely upper level classes cuz I got 45 credits from AP/IB/CLEP)
27 MCAT (10/10/7V)

1 year research experience

1 poster presentation

URM (not very involved though)

75 hours clinical experience

Worked with a professor to create a homework system for his class

1semester of crew

Currently looking at DO programs, but was wondering if I had any chance at an MD....

If you haven't just omitted to list some additional ECs and shadowing, I'd suggest your chances aren't what you'd like them to be. But look at the 'What are my Chances' tables, because depending on what type of URM, your numbers could be good enough to get you a few interviews -- then who knows?

80% chance because of my URM/GPA/MCAT. Just wondering if I'm going to be that 20% that doesn't make it 🙁

I was in the Alaskan Native society at my college...does that help at all?

So even though 80% of people with my stats get in, and I have lots of research experience, good recs, etc you saying that I have no chance at all? Am I really in the bottom 20% of applicants?

Ummm I'm confused! Why am I in the bottom fifth? I did go to an Ivy League school...
It's the whole picture. Many Ivies are grade inflated, your MCAT is modest at best. You have enjoyed every advantage.
We have kids who crawled here from Guatemala with a better gpa and a better MCAT despite ESL and a no-name school (and much more commitment to service).

If you went to an Ivy League school and are a native speaker of English, there is really no excuse for a verbal score of 7. That's what will do you in.

I want to study medicine. That joke of a test was asking me questions about ****ing Greek philosophy. Will the two 10s somehow balance it out at all? Will As in English 1+2 and an A+ in an English upper level help at all? Or am I completely ****ed?

You have enjoyed every possible advantage. With any luck you may get interviews.

You scored well below the average for matriculants to medical school on that joke of a test. Your MCAT is below the average for matriculants and your verbal is below the average for matriculants. I do think you are f'ed. There are more than twice as many applicants nationally as there are seats and most schools have 25-50 applications for every seat so it is the easiest thing in the world to take some metrics on which all applicants can be compared to one another and make some rough cuts to whittle the number of applications that require eyeballs down to a reasonable number.

You should have treated that joke of a test with more seriousness; most of your peers did.

Going to an Ivy League school doesn't make you better than any other applicants with those stats. You are exuding entitlement Through this post and your multitude of others. Congrats on your As in English though.

I think you're stuck with osteopathic schools

Could a retake possibly help? Or is it too late for that...

Looking at the score report, a 7 puts me in the bottom third. Because I'm a URM, as long as I'm not in the bottom fifth, I'm good to go. 1/5 isn't 1/3. It's almost half that. So why all the hate?

UIM is for the community, not the individual.

I am insulted. How dare you question my heritage? I identify with URM.
I do not question it. I'm confident that many of your opportunities were given based on the hope that you would be of service to that community. URM is not the standard used in medical school admissions, though. It has to do with under-served in medicine. Compared to my UIM applicants you are well below the 20th% in all matters evaluated.

Could you please please elaborate on this a bit? I'm confused :/

If a kid came out of Stebbins Alaska (population <600, >90% Native Alaskan, 40% low income) and managed to attend college and score a 27 on the MCAT, that applicant might have an excellent chance of getting admitted for adding great diversity to the student body and for having an understanding of Native Alaskan lifestyle and values that would be valuable in serving that population as a physician not to mention the almost certain "disadvantaged" essay that could come out of such an upbringing.

Mr. 45 credits from AP/IB/CLEP and an Ivy League education hanging his hat on URM status based on one great grandfather and "Alaskan Native society at my college" is going to be in the bottom of the pack for URM based on Native Alaskan status.

You're mistaken missy. The example you described would be for the TOP fifth, i.e. Getting into Harvard med. I'm shooting for bottom tier state schools. Am I really that low? It's not like I just partied it up and got a 3.2 and 24 or something...

I would posit that the MCAT score is close to lethal for most MD schools. You could try Oakland - and Western MI.

A useful, kind, non-hateful post. This is why I love @Goro

Apply to the bottom tier state schools taking careful note of those that are not friendly to OOS applicants. Come back in May and let us know how things panned out.
On a side note, what's the business with these Puerto Rican schools? Are they U.S. Schools? How competitive would I be for them?

You can be a physician.
We are trying to help you identify where your application will find a fertile field.
And yes, three of the Puerto Rican schools consider mainlanders with your qualifications. They are regular LCME accredited US schools.

Many Ivies are grade inflated
Interesting to hear you say this. I have heard other users argue that the caliber of student is higher at Ivies, and the material is more rigorous, hence the averages should be higher, hence the grades are not really inflated. I take it you don't share this view?
