Should I ask for my secondary fee back?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Some schools have cutoffs. I wouldn't request a refund. It's stated that you will not receive a decision until your supplemental + fee is paid.

You paid and didn't get what you wanted.

When you’re paying the secondary fee it usually says it’s non-refundable so I highly doubt they’ll make an exception just because you got rejected

I'm not upset I got rejected. That's a part of this process. This isn't my first rejection, and I haven't wanted to request a refund from any other school since they at least seemed to look at my application before making the decision. I'm upset they didn't even wait for my full materials to come in to reject me the minute I paid the secondary. I paid for them to at least look at my application.

Do you meet the minimum DAT and GPA requirements of the school?

The decision could have been made prior to your payment, they just didn't release it until you "completed" your application.

They did state that you will receive your decision only when all materials are submitted (fees, etc)

I'm sorry to hear that though. I still wouldn't ask for a refund - it just looks immature imo.

Hi,

So for one of the schools I applied to (with the most expensive secondary fee too) auto rejected me a day after I sent in my secondary. At the same time they sent me an email saying I was missing some requirements. A few days later I got an email from them saying they had just received one the required LOR's I sent in. Would it be a bad idea to ask them for a secondary refund since it's pretty clear this was an auto-reject and that they hadn't even read my application since I was still missing a requirement when they rejected me. I feel as though they had plenty of time to reject me before the secondary, but its apparent they waited until I paid the fee and didn't even fully review my application. I am so pissed its not ethical for schools to collect secondary fees from people they clearly prescreened out, especially ones who are low income applicants.
Was this Loma Linda? I know a bunch of my friends had the same thing happen to them back when we were all applying.

I figured that was the case. I guess I was just was pissed because I still had some missing materials that were being sent in.

Aren't they supposed to wait until at least December 1 before they can say anything?

Loma Linda had a $150 supplemental. All my other schools' fees were half that

You mean secondaries do not come with a money back guarantee?
I think this is a little different than a money back guarantee. Its fair game to reject an applicant after reviewing their application. Its another to autoreject someone before all materials are even in but only after the secondary fee was received.
There goes the budget for the beer money.
It must be nice to have a decent income. I'm a very low income applicant so that money is not just beer money to me.

They are not a business of making money, no t charity

This is for acceptances. Schools can waitlist/reject you at any time. They can only tell you if you've been accepted on/after December 1st.
Can't they only reject you before December 1st, and waitlists and acceptances are both only told December 1st onwards?

I am sorry Op.
This was so low of them regardless of the people who make it seems light.
I hope you get in this cycle, hopefully in a school that appreciates you 🙂

Unfortunately, dental schools will do you dirty sometimes. I paid a secondary fee to a school last cycle and to this day I have not heard from them at all, not even a rejection.
