hi you guys, i've been doing my pharmacy technician extern for only a few days at this retail pharmacy store...my license won't come home til the end of this month or beginning of next month (i passed the ptce so i was able to apply for license early)...my question is, should i go ahead and ask my pharmacy manager if he's hiring? i really like the job so far and want to work where i am doing extern right now...give me inputs on what to ask my pharmacy manager and what is the next step to do to get this pharmacy technician job? thanks

ps: btw im doing pharmacy technician to get experiences for applying to pharmacy schools this summer

Yes. The hiring process takes a couple of weeks. First the interview, then the call back, and then the drug test and the contract process takes about a week or so. Then ask if you can do any training modules (if you work at a retail, then there are going to be required "computerized" training. Like getting to know HIPPA and stuff like that). Might as well. Which retail chain are you working for? Ask the pharmacy manager if their hiring. If not, what stores around the area that are hiring.

I don't know how CVS handles the application process, but it's good that you work at CVS since it gets you a "foot-in-the-door" of getting hired (atleast that's what happened to me). I use to work as a stock boy at Wal-Mart until a month after my 18th birthday and I asked the pharmacy manager for my store and she said that when the job opening came (about 2 weeks after my 18th birthday), she really hooked me up. But it did take like a month or so to get my training licence (it was mainly my fault) so during the time I got hired, updated my contract and all that other stuff. I had 2 weeks to finish up my pharmacy training (on the clock pay for sitting on the computer always rocks 😛). Hope that helps. I say go for it now (if you want my opinion). It's never too early. Like my experience, if you let the pharmacy manager know that your really interested in pharmacy and you want a job, then pharmacy manager will think about you when it comes time to hire a new tech.

wow good thing you asked...but how did you ask thou? is it something like "(Your pharm manager name), do you think you can hire me?" or "I'm interested in working as a pharmacy technician here, is there anyway I can apply?"
I'm usually bad with wording when it comes to asking a question.

Well, just introduce yourself. How I got her attention was going up to her on day and let her know that I exist. Tell them what your about (kinda of a short background about yourself) and let them know that your interested...I guess they like it when people show initiative. Be yourself. And as time progressed (a few months before I got hired) I went up to them and just talked to them. Kinda got to them and by that I showed that I'm still interested (in a less obvious way lol). I don't know how to really explain it. I just did those things and they took notice. As I think about it...I never got an interview. My pharmacy manager was nice enough to hire me 😛. I guess the store owner gave me a recommendation lol. Out of 10 people that worked at the instock team, me and 3 other people did their job. That and I helped him build the store (literally, when I was hired at Wal-Mart, all the workers were building the store since it was a new store).

lol yea, my pharmacy manager know i'm existed because i work side by side with him...you are right about taking initiatives...before getting the pharmacy tech externship, i had to give him a call, then he told me to have the school call him in order for him to accept, then he never called me back...so then one week later i got so anxious that i gave him another call to follow up and he finally told me to come in to work...i am glad i made that call so now im working there....just need to make another initiative regarding to working there as a pharmacy technician...good thing you didn't have to go through interview...

Good luck 👍 You'll get the job

talk to the person who makes the schedule for the tech, if its the PIC or the lead tech. That person will most likely know if there are hours open and if they are hiring. They might want to hire someone, but can't because of corpo
