I am from Ohio. I was invited to an interview at tufts yesterday. I am trying to decide if I want to go or not. My real main concern is if I would even go to tufts because of the price. It is listed around $50,000/yr. Considering ohio state would only cost me $30,000 it seems kind of silly to spend ~700 to go visit. Does anyone know about the financial aid situation at tufts. Do they ever give money off for out of state, or merit-based scholarships. I know that I will get NO money on a need basis, and $50,000 is a ton of money. Everyone please throw in their $0.02

I would say it depends on how you feel about your previous or soon to-be interviews and how many you have. It would seem quite silly to apply to the school and have no intentions of going there if they give you an interview especially since you are not accepted to anywhere as of yet. And really, what is $700 held to the ~$200,000 loan you'll need for school.

P.S.
I'm in the same scenario with Temple and I'm taking the hit and doing the interview regardless. Look for deals though, it is only costing me ~$380 I figure for the whole trip so not that bad.

if u are confident in your other interviews, just call and try to push your interview back past december 1st. with tufts that definitely shouldn't be that hard since they are already giving out post-dec interviews. that way if you get in at ohio, you don't have to go. if you don't get in, you are still able to go to your interview

First off, congrats on the Pre-December interview at Tufts! Secondly, if you're already thinking about not attending because of the cost, which I agree is pretty high, then maybe you should reconsider and allow someone else who is willing to pay for Tufts a chance at an interview. If you're still on the fence, however, then maybe you should attend the interview in order to finalize your decision. If they wow you then maybe you'll reconsider their high costs; if they don't really float your boat then you know that you won't be attending their school. In terms of travelling costs... idk. Maybe you should look further into the school's resources and facilities to more or less gauge if you would even bother attending the interview. Hope that helps and I hope I get an interview soon as well!

Wow, you already have a guaranteed acceptance from Ohio State already?! You must be special. /sarcasm

If you have pre-decemner interviews you are more interested in, could you just schedule for post Dec 1st so that way if you don't get into your preferred choices you still have a shot?

I am not too sure if that is a good idea because it might show disinterest in Tufts, but they started so late, a post Dec 1st interview might be one the dates they offered you.

Another thing to think about is if Tufts is the only school that accepts you, would you attend? If so, and you are not in a comfortable situation in terms of interviews and other acceptances, I see $700 for an interview is well worth it. It beats having a gap year and trying to figure out what to do while you apply... again...

Good luck with your decision

Tufts also has a great #accepted:#interviewed ratio, about 80% according to the 2010 ADEA. So, its a good back up to your desired state school.

I believe Tufts also has a $6000/yr merit scholarship, provided you maintain something like a 3.0 gpa each year.

I say if you are confident in your performances at your other interviews, then either push it past Dec 1 or just withdraw your app.

Also, I don't understand how you would spend $700 to get to Boston. I'm not sure if you are from Columbus or not, but Southwest has round-trip tickets to Boston for around ~$200 during the week. Throw in a hotel, taxi, etc... you probably won't go over $350.

Have you been to Boston? If you can find a hotel downtown for $200/night that's a good deal. But if the OP has any interest in going, I say go to the interview and check out the city.

Unless I had 8+interviews or my interviewer at Ohio state said "Expect an acceptance packet in December wink wink😉😉" I would attend all my pre-dec interviews. Also as stated above, if you had no interest in the school why did you apply? You had to have known tufts was expensive in the beginning! I would love an interview at tufts so sad people with no interest don't want it! I want to see their new facilities they just built. Nonetheless, I think you should check it out too and would definitely go. my $0.02.

completely agree. on all points. if you don't want your interview, i'll take it. :xf:

I canceled my. You cant move them back so... If you do not want to go to their school do not waste their time or your money.

if you decide not to go can you call them and tell them snaggle wants your interview plz. jk. but it would be nice if it worked like that.

nothing's guaranteed

i would attend the interview just in case you don't get into your state school.

I just wanted to point out that Ohio State tuition for an Ohio resident is actually closer to $40,000 a year for all years except the 1st year. 28,986 for year 1 and 38,648 for years 2, 3 & 4 according to the handout (yes, this is tuition only). Just pointing out that it might not be as cheap as you thought. Good luck with your decision.
