hey there...
so i have decided that i want to do pharmacy. and i have planned out what classes i need to retake and i am going to be doing that at a JC starting this summer. i know applications are due no later than november/december. but i also know that applying early is very important. right now i have a crappy GPA..2.42 overall and about the same for science. im planning on retaking every pre req class i got a C in and that should bring my pre-req GPA to well over 3.0..assuming i do well. the thing im wondering is..will they accept me or even give me an interview if i am still in the process of retaking classes. because by the time i apply over summer i will still be in the first batch of classes and they wont be able to see how im doing and how i may be improving. so main thing is..would it be possible for me to apply and just keep updating the schools on my progress or should i wait til i have finished retaking all the classes and then apply for fall 2010?
thanks for any help!

I don't know if you are even going to be eligible for application in Fall 09.

You are below the minimum GPA and minimum GPA applicants are already botton of the barell and have an incredibly hard time to get in. So technically if you are sill in the process of taking classes and your GPA is below the minimum you may be ineligible for applying. Adcoms can't see into the future and predict what your GPA is going to be several months later, they will go by what it is at the moment. Therefore, you may not even have your application reviewed because at that point in time you GPA will be below the cut off threshold.

Some of the people in my school just got automatically rejected from schools they applied to right away because their GPA was below the minimum.

ah i c..thanks for the info. anyone else have any input for me?

Pull your GPA back up to 3.0 and score higher than 80 on PCAT; then consider applying. Retake your classes and learn it well the second time around; this will help for reviewing for PCAT.

If I were you, I save my money and apply in 1.5 to 2 years (depending on what classes you need to retake / how long its gonna take to raise your GPA to 3.0 & raise your PCAT above 80).

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, given your current gpa, the logical thing to do would be to put off applying for another year. Like the first reply stated, your gpa doesn't meet the minimum gpa requirement so that will most certainly be an automatic rejection.

Also, assuming you already have a lot of units under your belt, you are going to have to take a crap load of classes (and get A's in them) in order to see a significant change in your gpa.

Optimistically however, I believe luck really does play its part in the application process so it wouldn't hurt to apply to some schools this year just to say you tried. Maybe they will see something in your PS or ec's that will at least get you an interview. Anyways, if you do apply this year realize that the schools you choose need to have academic forgiveness, as that will help you out a lot.

You are not going to be able to even be considered a viable candidate for the upcoming year with that GPA. Aim for the following year. Not only retake your science courses but take several upper level science courses to prove to them that you are capable of handling a larger, more advanced curriculum. Good Luck.
