I know this is an annoying question, so I apologize in advance, but I really need some advice. I took a year off after college in hopes of doing something to better my chances for dental school. So I took a few courses at a community college, and now I realize that was a dumb mistake. I should have just enrolled in a post bacc program. 😡
Anyway, my gpa is a 3.0 or 2.9 last time i checked. This is due to my major screwing up during sophomore year. The first time I took my DAT i got AA:19, PA:20. This was two years ago, and I am going to take it again in May. I am aiming to get around a 26.
Supposing I do get this score, would dental schools even consider me? I know some dental schools don't even consider apps that have a gpa such as mine. should i just save myself the application process and money, and go for my post bacc or masters degree?
I cant stop beating myself up ... i may have to wait another two years? :scared: AHHHHH

Here, have a hearty lol.

Yes, a 26 would turn some heads. As far as getting one, there are a few people on these boards whose counsel you should seek.

Why not apply?

Here I am in a nutshell:
GPA: 2.96
Science GPA: 3.32

DAT: 19/20/19

And yep..... Just Kickin it in Dental school.

is your father an alumnus at the dental school you're attending? did he contribute any money? is your dental school at the same institution as your undergrad?

If you really want to practice dentistry, apply. You may not get in on the first attempt, but with persistence and continual improvement of your application you could be accepted. My GPA was <3.0, cum and sci, my DAT scores were in the low 20's, and I was accepted on my third attempt.

And no, my parents are not alumni at the school, nor are are they dentists, but I did do my best to network over those three years and got to know quite a few people that spoke on my behalf. If you really want it, go for it!

Anyhow, at least you set your sights high...but if I listened to everyone that said I didn't have a chance with a 3.2 GPA including my father then I wouldn't be attending dental school this year.

Don't stop believing...as Journey would say.

I would apply and work on some serious community service hours at one specific place

Oh! I forgot to mention that My great Grandpappy is GV Black!

No my father is not an alum, no he did not give any cash. (I didn't even get any cash)

Yes I did go to UF for undergrad... but it takes more than that to get in here.

How did I do it you ask? I was REAL, I worked hard, I was a leader, I told the truth in my essay and interview (even when it was BAD), I did research. I did everything it took to get into dental school except TAKE THE EASY WAY.

Why was it a dumb mistake? Did you bomb your community college classes?

thanks for the encouragement!
This would be my second attempt applying actually... some people say that with low credentials, if schools see that you keep applying, they will look at it as something you really want and it can in a sense help you? i hope so.

Pelotari: community college is a good route for some, however I just regret not doing a full post bacc program or masters degree. I have so many credits raked up that taking a few more classes is going to affect my gpa by like .00001.

so do a post bac while you apply.

and do dental research AT A DENTAL SCHOOL.

and get in good with the people who matter.
