Okay, so technically, I am DONE with my Psych degree. All I need is 1 Psych class in the fall and my degree is technically done...all I would need my 8th semester is a few Credits However, I *am* taking extra Psych in the fall just because I like it. However, in the Spring, do I bother with even more Psych than I need? I was thinking of taking upper level Psych and then adding an Anthropology minor and taking those in the Spring.

But my question is, would the grad schools rather see a minor and extra psych or would they rather see a more "well-rounded" student with classes in some random intro level courses? (PS, Bonus if you can guess what my major was *going to* be, lol)

By the end of my 7th semester, I will have:
Principles of Macroeconomics
English/Writing through Literature
University Intro
Math for Business and Econ
Intro Psych 1

Intro to Theatre
Principles of Microeconomics
Major Works of English and American Lit
Calc for Business and Economics
Intro Psychology 2

Foundations of Bio
Process of Communications
History/Modern Western Traditions
Philosophy
Abnormal Psych

Principles of Financial Accounting
Intro to Anthropology
Women in Theatre
Emotional and Behavioral Disorders of Childhood
The City in Western Tradition (Urban and Community Studies)

Learning and Behavior
Social Psych
Sensation and Perception
Elementary Concepts of Stats
Sociology of Health

Research Methods
Personality Theories
Tests and Measurements
Undergrad Research Clinical
Undergrad Research Social

Social Anthropology

Psychological Anthropology
Peer Counseling (required for the class I will mentor/TA)
Current Topics in Social Psych
History and Systems of Psych
Undergrad Research
Independent Study
Internship
(Yeah, that semester looks like hell, doesn't it? Now add work onto that, lol)

Then my 8th semester, I can take 3 more upper level Anth plus my Independent study and a Psych or two...orrrr I can take other random classes...thoughts?
(PS, I am going for Social Psych)

I'm not a 100% sure what goes on in the heads of those invovled in the admission process, but I would guess that a stronger background in psych would be better. It is hard to cover every little sphere of psych with a bachelor's degree. I took 14 psych classes (10 are required for my major) and I still somehow missed developmental (I mean, I covered it in other classes, but not the whole course on it...don't ask how that happened).

I know the Insider's Guide usually cites that certain universities look for courses on your transcript as your "psych background" (i.e. abnormal for clinical applicants). You can look through those and decide if you wish to take supplemental coursework or not.

Good luck!

If I were you, I'd look at some applications of programs you would like to apply to and see if your transcript meets all or most of the classes they ask for. You could also contact program administrators to ask if they have minimum required psych courses. If you do not want to take another psych class and have satisfied the requirements for your school's major, then take something else!

First, I think that is really good advice!

Second, I am wondering whether you would even be registered for second semester classes when you go through the application process in November/December? (forgive me, I came from a quarter system) If not, you couldn't report them anyway. Also, I only remember a couple of programs asking me for my winter quarter enrollment. What I am getting at is that many schools won't even know what you are taking anyway!

If you want to take more psych - I would recommend neuro - it's one thing I never got around too, and really wish I had taken. I touched on it in a lot of my classes, but I never got the full deal - there's such a huge focus on it, I think it would be a valuable addition.

Yes, I will be registered for the Spring by November/December. And, in the event that I don't get in or decide not to apply, then they will see the classes when I apply the next year.

And neuro is useless to me as a Social psych person...plus I suck at the science based classes.

I have taken most of the classes that my school offers that I am interested in. The classes that are left for the spring that I might be interested in are like...Social Organizational, I/O, research in Social (though this is useless to me since I will be doing my Independent anyway), Developmental (but I can't take it since I was permissioned past it in order to take Emo. Disorders.), Health Psych, mayyyybe Psych of Language...and that's about it. The other classes that are left that I haven't taken (Animal Behavior, Genetics, etc. don't interest me). Or maybe I can try to take a grad class + 3 Anthro + my Independent Study.

But how about the Anthro minor...would they care? I am only considering it because I have a small interest in Evolutionary Psych and if the different disorders served an adaptive purpose at one time.

Or, my other option is to take some random Socio+Anthro+ who knows what else classes.

The thing is, credits are not the issue for me. I will graduate with 130+ credits and we only need 120 to graduate. So my last semester I only technically *need* 6 or so credits and taking all the classes in the spring would just be for 6 credit fillers + whatever I want to take. (Does that make sense?) I also have way more Psych credits than I need as well.

Even though you are doing social psych. I would 2nd taking neuro. It will be helpful even for a none science oriented student. I didn't find it too difficult and I'm not a natural in "hard science". Fascinating class.

or...

enjoy a relaxing last semester and take a couple fun classes. Wine appreciation, scuba diving, guitar etc. 👍

Well, if you don't think you'll do well in it, I wouldn't take it. You don't want to hurt your GPA just in case you do have to go through a second cycle of applications.

If you have all the psych classes that they require you to have, I don't think they would care. Anthro is certainly applicable to Psych in a lot of ways anyway. I used a lot of my electives on my certificate in Deaf Studies and it actually became a talking point on a couple of interviews.
