So I just got an acceptance from COMP-NW in Oregon. Should I cancel my upcoming interview at CUSOM. I was having doubts about CUSOM anyway since it's a new school. What do you guys think?

Well, would you be happy at COMP-NW? Can you see yourself picking CUSOM over COMP-NW, if the interview day just blows you away?
What about geography? Which one is closer to friends and family?

If you're happy where you want to go over CUSOM then go ahead. Tons of people waiting for a spot so the school won't hold any grudges.

Congratulations!

While it is true that you never know until you see for yourself, I turned down an interview and never turned in secondaries at schools that were actively calling me because I was accepted to one of my top choices. I will never know how good those schools are in comparison, but for me I was perfectly happy with the school and thus I couldn't justify spending hundreds of dollars to go on more interviews.

You should go to the interview, because I want a seat at COMP-NW. 😉

This is exactly what happened to me.

I would NEVER cancel an interview at a school you think you might be happy at, unless it comes down to feeding your family vs buying a plane ticket. You deserve to have a chance to see what those other schools have to offer you. You've worked hard (I assume) to get to this point where you have multiple interviews. Enjoy it and give yourself the best chance at being successful in the future.

FWIW, I would put COMP-NW up against anyone but you should still see for yourself.

What's cusom?

CUSOM is the new school that they're opening up down in North Carolina near Raleigh.

Thanks for all the replies!! COMP-NW is awesome! I could definitely see myself there, but there's no harm in checking out this school as well I guess. I don't know if I could deal with not knowing what CUSOM is all about. Also, Im from NYC so CUSOM is closer to home and family. The tuition is cheaper, as is the travel. I think I just made up my mind! Thanks!

for sure.
my two top choices were acom and nova...like the schools and also a GA resident so its close. was lucky enough to have been accepted to both so decided between them. leaning towards nova. i do have 3 other interviews pending though...been going back and forth on whether or not to attend. too much money i think..especially if im content with the schools ive been accepted to alreadty. but you never know unless you go and see for yourself...hm.

If you're interested, check it out.

I cancelled three or four interviews because they all rolled in after I got one of my top acceptances. I was interested in all of these schools but not enough to shell out cash to check them out.

Yeah, i'll go check it out...since i'm driving, the cost won't be too too high, just the hotel costs. Hopefully, I'll be in the situation where I can choose!

New school over COMP? That does not make much sense to me. At COMP you have the best of both worlds. The long-standing reputation of Western U, and the willingness of a new school to work with the students to make the school a better place. Also, the rotation sites of COMP have been mostly set up for the past 10 years. They just had to expand and add to meet the needs of the current second year students. From what I hear, there are some really good rotation sites available all over the state of Oregon.

Once I was accepted to COMP, I dropped all my other interviews except one (the state school). I was not expecting to get accepted at OHSU, so was trying to decide between Nova and COMP. Both solid schools. It was coming down to cost. Nova had a lower tuition, but allowed more loans to be taken out. It would have allowed me and my wife to live with a little more comfort. COMP was closer to family and friends (support for my wife while I was working) but we would not have been able to afford to live so we would probably would have had to live apart. Her living in Portland area so she could keep working and provide income and health insurance. Me living in Lebanon studying and learning. Not a good idea for a relationship.

In the end, do what you need to do. But consider all the implications before making a decision. Interviews are not cheap, but they are not as expensive as going to the wrong school.

As per usual, in the pre-osteo thread, I did not read any of the replies. With that said, I am a firm believer in going to every single interview. At the least, it is a chance to get comfortable interviewing...a skill you will undoubtedly need in the future. At the best, you find a place you didn't think you would like and you end up there.

That's how I chose CCOM over my instate OUCOM.

Money not a factor, I would do this too. I know interview costs are paltry compared to future salary, etc. but sometimes you just can't afford that many interviews together.
