I will be taking physics this Fall as a prereq. I would like to also take immunology but from researching this site am getting that the class is difficult. I don't want to take on too much and know that rockin' physics is a must especially in preparation for the mcat. What do you think? 😕

You can handle that no problem, what else are you taking?

That is it. I have to take physics I,II; gen chem I,II; and org chem I,II before I apply. I have completed all the other required prereqs. This Fall I will begin with physics but am interested in doing immunology , one because it will help me eventually in med school and also from reading many posts here looks good to adcoms in taking advanced bio courses at a university and doing well. If I do immunology this Fall I will probaly try endocrinology or human physiology next summer. Thanks for your input! 🙂

Do you have high level of commitments other than school? I am going to try to take Gen Chem, Bio and Physics this fall. Maybe one more class. This is only because I do not plan on working full time. Even if you do have high level of outside commitment I do not think two classes would be too much.

Yes I am working full time M-Fri with weekends off not to mention being married with two kiddos....😀 Luckily the immunology class is in the evening and the physics class will be on the weekend..

Something to think about is that you can't take one class at a time forever. It would simply take too long. I too have a wife, child, full time job, and take a full time course load (last semester was Biochem 2, Histology, Anatomy, Research project, and Upper division English Class). Two courses at a time should not be a problem. Medical schools want to see not only good grades, but that you can handle the heavy course load of medical school. Show them that you are committed and rock both classes.

So other than Bio I and II, you haven't taken any other prereqs? You do realize that with the chemistry prereqs you are looking at least 2 years away before you can apply for medical school, and if you wait until after you take your physics sequence, that will make it 3 years? Of course, that might be your plan and with a family and full-time job, I can understand. I do think that you might run into challenges when you apply and they see that you really haven't taken a full course load. While you won't be working in medical school where you will have a full load, you will still have your family and those responsibilities.

You may find that if you take Chem 1 along with the physics I, you may gain more from both classes. As I'm reviewing some physics before I start this fall, I'm seeing some areas where I wish I did take physics with or before general Chemistry.

If you can't do the chemistry this semester, I would definitely take immunology...you do want to show that you will be able to take at least two tough classes.

Best of luck! :luck::luck::luck::luck:

Taking two classes while working full-time is doable. I did it for two full years. There were definitely times that it sucked, but I never felt completely overwhelmed. I did make judicious use of my vacation and personal days though, especially during finals.

This is really a "know thyself" moment. Because ultimately, only you can answer this question. Getting A's should you be your priority.

Only do it if you can be reasonably sure that you'll get A's and mentally commit yourself (don't be casual about it) to doing whatever is necessary to get A's.

Cuz getting an A in just physics far exceeds getting B's in both.

Thanks for your input! 🙂 Actually I have a masters degree (graduated in 06') and graduated summa cum laude with my BSN degree so I think they will see that I can handle a full load. My plans are to apply in 2012 so I have some time to take these last prereqs. I have decided to take 2 courses per semester (one of the above mentioned prereqs and an advance bio course) as I wrap these last courses up. I am in no hurry for now.....
