Hi future colleagues

I'm an M1 and I got a clinical research gig this summer to do clinical research at this clinic. I would mostly be doing data collection/making sure patients fit a drug trial. The thing is most of the data would be given to drug companies that sponsored the trial so I wouldn't be doing any data analysis.

I already have a lot of research (800+ hours) from undergrad, but only 1 poster, no papers. Would it be beneficial for my career to do this internship? My backup is a preceptorship program over the summer.

Depends on if you want to do a competitive residency. If yes, yes. If not, not really. It certainly wouldn't hurt your CV either way.

AFAIK, residencies only care about names on papers/presentations/etc. 800 hours of research in undergrad probably isn't going to impress anyone.

Who developed the protocol? Who initiated the trial? How many sites? How likely is it that you will be an author on any manuscript that is developed from the data collected? My guess is not great if it's industry-initiated, but it all depends on certain factors at play. Have you discussed this with someone running the trial at the clinic?

Screening patients and shipping data to drug companies doesn't sound like an awesome way to get on publications or get useful research skills.

What is the preceptor program you mention? Why can't you do a project on your own with a faculty member?
