I screwed up my first semester of junior year and I am looking at a cGPA of 3.5 and sGPA of 3.2 for my third year. I know AMCAS breaks down the GPA year by year. The thing is, my first two years were very good, all around 3.7-4.0. Overall I'm looking at a 3.6-3.7 range.
So should I explain this in my PS or not? I don't want to draw any unnecessary attention to this, the reason I'm asking.

Nope, don't bother.

Fixed the thread title, for you. 😀 I agree with them. Your PS is for focusing on all your good attributes. Besides, I think a lot of secondaries have places for you to talk about this kind of thing.

Unless your GPA dropped because you were busy saving the president from terrorist nazi ninjas, it is a losing proposition. Seriously, adcoms want to read about interesting stuff, like terrorist nazi ninjas, not an unsolicited justification of why your GPA is merely good rather than stellar.

 It's been a really long day and this made me laugh. Thanks for that.

Also, just so this post is somewhat constructive, I agree with everyone else. Seeing as it's just one mediocre year among several very good years, I have a hard time imaging how you could work an explanation into your PS without completely ruining the flow...

Thanks all for the quick responses. I seriously don't know what I would do without all of you from SDN.🙂
