Hello everyone, thank you all for reading this message. I am a sophomore at college and about to finish my perquisites for a chemistry major. As a beginner in this whole process of admission to dental school, i am very confused about the fact if i should complete my B.A iin chemistry or just focus on the dental school requirements and recommended courses. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thank you so much!

Yes, I would definitely finish. Some schools like seeing that you have taken upper level science courses and have excelled in them. This shows them that you are able to tackle on hard science courses - plus, it will allow you to go ahead and build a foundation for all the core classes you will be taking as a D1 (i.e. gross anatomy, biochemistry, microbio, immuno, etc... just to name a few). You want to be familiar with those topics so you wont waste time learning all the basics b/c it will all go pretty fast and you still have lab work to focus on as well. I am not a dental student but I have 2 friends (a D3 and a D1) so they tell me a lot of what goes on. I hope this helps.

If you do your research on dental schools, a lot of them actually require a Bachelors degree. You can complete the dental school requirements while progressing through your chemistry degree. My thought was "I don't want to leave my undergrad school empty-handed." I wanted my degree and worked hard for it. Don't you want to finish what you started? Best of luck.

thank you guys for taking your time to answer.... and definitely is pf great help!

Finish your degree. Take some physio, micro, neuroscience, histo as an upperclassman, it may help in D school. You never know when you may need your bachelors degree, get it.

Definitely get your BA. Dental schools don't require a BA degree, but it's highly recommended to have one, which is essentially the polite way to say that if you don't have it your chances of admission will be very very very very small. Think about, they have so many people applicants with BA degrees. Why would they choose you over them, if you haven't even bothered to get your BA?
