Is it worth throwing away a nearly guaranteed job offer at a chain to intern somewhere else with a better working environment (grocery or indi) BUT with a lower chance of getting hired upon graduation?

I work at a big chain, don't mind the job and could see myself working there, and in my market it's pretty much a guaranteed offer if you are an intern. I've had the opportunity to get to know the sup and my PIC speaks highly of me. All that being said it is without question that the pharmacists here are handed the highest workload and deal with the most stress. I'd probably perform well here but I don't want to leave a better position on the table. Would it be stupid to jump ship, get a job at a local chain/grocery store knowing full well that I am far less likely to have a job waiting for me when I graduate? I could always stay with the chain and shot apps out when I graduate but even if they hire me I'd still have to overcome the task of learning a new system since I didn't intern there. Also, if I quit as an intern would they still consider hiring me if I can't find another job? I'm guessing I wouldn't be on the top of their list if I pulled something like this.

Bad move, especially since it's all going to be retail in the end. Keep in mind it's also a plus for you to stay at the same chain for a long time when interviewing for the grocery job as it shows you could survive and stay in a consistently hard environment.

I'd stay where you are at. You will probably get paid more and who knows how long these grocery chain stores will stay around. Also if your sup already knows how well you are doing as an intern then you are in a good spot when you become a pharmacist. You will know the metrics and everything day 1. I came in dry and didn't know a thing and had to research and research to learn all the metrics to get to where I am. You are already ahead of the game. I wouldn't throw that away. So many opportunities where you are at right now.

And you know what they say, "if you can make it at the three letter chain you can make it anywhere".

Thanks for the input. This is actually the direction I was leaning but I was expecting people to say the opposite.
